hola folks
maybe someone can answer this question. i recently compiled 50 selfmade loops and samples as mp3's for people to use freely, but afterwards i realized with horror that the loops don't loop seamlessly anymore. apparently the conversion made a mini head and tail to the mp3's and now they're sounding totally spastic (the original wav's were flawless). i used the old xing mp3 encoder for this. is this always the case with mp3 conversion or am i using an unsuitable program for this? it works fine for other mp3's, like for just listening of tunes.... wierd!!!

.mp3 compression adds a small section of silence at the start of the file ... hence your timing problems on the loops ...
... this has been known about for a while BTW ...
... if you REALLY need to supply your loops in a compressed format go with .ogg for lossy compression or .flac / .ape for lossless compression ... all these codecs and converters are available for free ...

first time at this... learning through the nose.
i thought mp3 is good enough cos the sounds are of a lo-fi nature, also cos i've seen acid and ableton work ok with mp3 loops. wonder how "they" pulled it off?! if and when i find the time i'll make another batch....

... start of a 1 bar drum loop - .wav version examined in audition ...
... the same loop converted to .mp3 and loaded into live5 ...
... and yes ... that gap IS audible ... only way live5 could work with this is for the user to manually set the start / end points of the loop after import ...

well for the moment i have to leave my loups-pak up there (back home in 2 weeks...), hopefully someone has use for the sounds anyway!!

Yes, or use lossless codecs which are specified for PCM-oriented data like wav files. Google for flac, ape, wavpack.
Another option is to use ogg. Ogg does NOT cut out starts/ends of samples. It's not lossless, but shrinks more.
