How can it be done? For example, I want to setup a chorus effect, and then take a microphone and run it through the chorus without having to record anything beforehand. What can do this? Something that just simply takes my soundcards input, runs it through VST effects, and then finally outputs it in real time.

I can't think of a sequencer/host that will NOT let you do this. They all do it. Take your pick. ;)

I dont believe FL does this. Does it?

I don't know from FL, but it has its roots in step-sequencing and MIDI. I'm not sure what its audio sequencing capabilities are, but I've always been under the impression they were sort of cobbled-together. So, you might be right about FL, but that'd be the only one I can think of.

If you really just want it for realtime, you can look at something like SpinAudio's VMC or Brainspawn's Forte.

Ill check those things out, thanks Lunch Monay

FL Studio DOES do what you are asking if you use asio.

Arm a mixer track with the little disk button on the bottom right.
Setup the fx chain you want to monitor and then choose your input from the bottom left and what output you want to use (soundcard) at bottom right. If you set it up properly you can monitor your mike input thru the fx and you can record by pressing record button on transport (it will be recorded WITH fx).

There are ways to monitor with fx and record without them also, but if you can figure this out, you can figure that out. Just involves using two tracks instead of one.

Well I dont have asio approved soundcard. I can try Asio4all but I don't know how to get it to work with FL. I've only had to use it for MiniHost.

Post

Install ASIO4all, open your prefered host and select it under 'Audio (card)settings'..

If you want to use MiniHost, go ahead and grab that, then load EnergyXT inside it, build your FX chain in the main window, then hit record..

Done.

ASIO4all runs great with FL Studio.

Add CTAF's MultiFXVST chainer to TobyBear's MiniHost. MultiFXVST is a free VST chainer. All of a sudden you can run chains of VST and VSTi in MiniHost. Voila. With MultiFXVST you may save your presets for free. To save your presets with energy costs $40-$50.

I got a problem. Asio4all causes these frequent dropouts that cause a recording problem for me. I tried increasing the buffer size but that only made the dropouts less frequent. Is this a bug? whats wrong here.

System specs and info for the soft/plugins you're using, would help.
Also did you try those extra settings on ASIO panel?
