cubase stops when switch windows

I have installed my new card, esi juli@ and i've noticed 2 things, first one: when im running cubase sx3 and swtich to another application or window the sound stops and when i go back to cubase the sound plays back where it had stopped from. Second: Ive realized a bit of shrill sound in some mp3, it sounds that there is something satured, specially guitars (at low volumes too), when i import the audio (cd or mp3) to cubase sometimes i hear that noise and sometimes dont, anyone know what can be done to check if the card itself is all ok and whats going on!?!

for those who doesnt know how it occur. there is an option in device menu "release asio in background..." uncheck that!
