Does anyone know how to put 2 songs perfectly in sync and to the same beat (like you would with turntables) in a software program.

I don't have ableton live so I need to use something else.

Does anyone know how to do it in FLstudio, Cubase SX3, or adobe audition? or do you use something else?

there are specific programs for mixing, not sure how good they are at beat matching. Ive used Mix Meister Pro before, it kind of does it, but there a lots more to try.

probably traktor is the most specialized for this? if not that then you'll have to use your standard host to find out what tempo the track is playing at and then stretch it into a common tempo for the two tracks. from there it would be as simple as snapping the two tunes on a grid.

Does anyone know of a free vst or standalone program that will detect a song's bpm and then stretch it to any bpm you want it to go to?

If that can be done, then the rest should be easy in any host that can work with audio

Cubase would do it easily, but a) the quality might be questionable, depending on both the material and the percentage of course (around 10-20% should be ok) and it might be a bit slow for complete songs as well, so realtime useage is out of question.
You may indeed want to try Traktor or Live.
Hm, ACID will probably get you into the game as well, you could just try with ACID Xpress or whatever they have on offer to demo things.

Check out Virtual DJ, its pretty good for live mixing, though if you want to arrange a mix session for CD the maybe wavelab would be better,

one tip: dont timestretch, it will always sound nasty, pitch shifting will be a lot smoother, though it will change the tone, jsut as pitching a turntable will change the tone,

there is a free vst BPM detector from a company called terragon audio.

Thanks for the tip martyb, I didn't know that about timestretch vs. pitch shifting

I know that BT's album "R&R" was mixed in pro tools so I know it can be done in a host like this. If I can just find out how they were able to match the songs perfectly like you would with turntables...

The only way I can think of doing this is zooming in and matching the look of the wave forms... I'm sure there is a better way though

There is also xTal VST (freeware) but it's too buggy IMO http://www.irdbisa.com/gunshopsoft/xtal/index.htm

Also with djDecks you can play any song at any BPM, so you can record it and export the recording to your host. (The demo is fully functional but it quits after 35 minutes)
