I need opinions on the best Ethnic soundset, sample cd, downloads - whatever.
I'm not looking for yet another VST (Ra) or loops (Ethno World), just a nice collection of one-shots and/or multi-samples of instruments from various cultures and parts of the world.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Have a look at Doru Malaya's website: "http://www.dorumalaia.com/freerefillswavsamples.htm". The free downlaodable examples might convince you to buy the DVD (great sounding samples of real instruments in 16 or 24bit - wav or other formats)

You can check out our site for multisampled instruments. We have a lot of different stuff.

Thanks for the replies.
My impression has been that Ra has excellent sound quality, but that you don't get a huge variety, considering the price. Plus, I really don't want yet another VST - really more something that I can use with my current gear (Sampletank, but I can convert several formats).
Ethno World has a bunch of loops (that I don't need) does it not?
Thanks again.

Check out the sample discs from Q-UP Arts (the world) and Northstar (phase4) Both long in the tooth but I have not found better for small libraries (ie non-giga type stuff).

Ethno world 3 has some loops yea But it has tons of great winds and multisamples of instruments! so you could do say World Winds Akai, then RA and you would be set. There really isn't anything that compares to RA. But Ethno World 3 has that Chinese Harp^_-
For bigger sounding drums you go Storm Drums.
