A List of VSTs that don't like to have their folders moved

I'm going to try to keep a list of all the VST instruments and
effects that don't like to be randomly moved around (in other
words they have to be re-installed if you reorganize your VST
folder or need to be kept in a certain relationship with some
other folder or dat file)
Feel free to post any you notice and I'll stick them in the list.
Parissa
Oatmeal
PD3
Percolator
Photon
Prophesea
Malty
Meridian
MicroOrgan
GTG (all of them?)
Inte_Doobee
Dr. Benway
Dr. Lebezeit

This is THE BEST THREAD EVER!!! I hate when programs rely on staying in the same path!
The following statement is true.
The previous statement is false.

In that list, only the Oatmeal falls ni this category for me. As for the others that I have from the list, I shuffle them about all the time. The GTG plugins only insist on having the .dat file present, as do all plugins that come with .dat files. I have no problem with EVM synths either. I keep a subfolder named "Bitchy Plugins" for the rest.
You can add to the list:
Synth 1
Faubrausch V2

I find that often times you can modify the plugin's registry setting to accommodate moving it to another folder.
Be careful though. If you aren't comfortable with editing your registry you're probably better off ignoring this method.

Is this thread a joke ?
Of all the plugs that I have and that are listed here, all support being moved around without problems.
Oatmeal will just revert to it's default skin. And you'll just need to click on a button from it's GUI to restore your previous custom one.
Synth1 will loose the extra preset banks locations but again those can easily be restored through it's GUI.
I suppose the reference to Farbraush is because you can't easily change presets. That's because it needs some midi cc messages to change presets and not because it's location has changed. It does come zipped without installer so it hasn't got a precise location that is set by an installer in the registry.
For the others, install them in their own folder and then move that folder and not just only the dll. Again, most of them come zipped only.
The difficult ones, requiring the Vulich method or to be reinstalled to a new location, are Tassman, Tera and Zebra for example. I just have cut down magazine versions but I guess it holds for the full versions as well.

Great thread. Wusik and any of it's off spring don't work if I move them, Quantum FX the same and MHC synths and effects REALLY don't like it, usually require uninstall and install.
There may be more but not at home at the moment.

With most of them you have indeed to move their directory and not only the DLL... But of you put everything in one single directory, you'll probably miss some of the files when you try to move a VST.
I confirm the MHC stuff, except Ambient Keys.

I move wusik dlls and folder around all the time. You can move the dlls freely, and if you move the Wusikstation DATA folder wusik just asks for the new location next time you load it.
The mind boggles.

Yes of course, the uninstaller only remembers the exact file names...
EDIT: sorry, didn't intend to sound rude...

Also, this list can become quite useful. I would even assign "categories" to the entries. For example:
- .DAT file: Some synthedit stuff (i.e. Prophesea and other Jack Dark stuff) have a .dat file with the same name as the dll and both files should be moved together as they need to be in the same folder
- Patch relocation: Some plugs (i.e. Synth1, Wusik) need the patch folder to be re-selected manually (from the own plug gui usually) when the the folder has been moved
etc

Garritan personal orchestra! It's so unpractical to move it. It has to search all harddrives and it has a "manual search" or whatever it is called button, which I cannot select. It has to scan all my harddrives. And every single instrument has to scan independently for the files. Takes ages!
