Also, much of hip hop drums were programmed with 12-bit samplers up until computers came on the scene (and some prefer them today for the sound) so a bit crusher can add just the right effect.

Not released yet, but Sonitex STX-1260 is very well suited for just that. I expect it to be released in about a couple of weeks.

it adds this air & distortion like character i can't get from a distortion plugin , simply superb on lo-fi drumz close your eyes and you'd swear its hardware.

Not an effect,but Soliton 2(an audio editor)can halve the samplerate,then double it back up wich has a nice effect on loops.
