I was considering upgrading to sonar 5 (it hyas the sonitus FX suite) but I do like voxengo's Gliss EQ and comp.
in your opinion which plugs are better (primarilly for EQ and compression)?
thanks!

Pay $1,000 for a sequencer? ummm... no

I have Sonar 4, glissEQ, Marquis, as well as some others. Keep both. Sonitus is a great suite for the price of the upgrade alone. Sonitus is what I use for more surgical/tranparent cuts. gliss is what I use for flavor/colored adjustments. Same with compression Sonitus=clean, Marquis="flava".
They're a great compliment to one another IMHO. I'm no EQ expert so others can give different opinions.

the sonitus effects are really good to me. I find them very quick and easy to get results from. They are a little polite sounding so sometimes you want something different. The reverb is very useful as well and pretty cpu friendly. All in all I'd totally recomend them.

The sonitus is a good suite to have but in my opinion are not as good as voxengo's, however i'd go for the sonar upgrade and voxengo's together. Sonar upgrade will give you v-vocal,perfect space and many other things making it a killer deal. Voxengo's are some of the best plugins out here.

hmmm I I might get the voxengo EQ, LF max and possibly LF punch, but I think that the sonar fx plugins will eventually be my bread and butter plugs.

I'm sure you know you and your music more then any of us could ever. If your sure sonitus will be your bread and butter then i totally agree you definitely should upgrade to sonar 5 (you can always buy the voxengo's later if still desired). I can only speak from my personal preference. Sonar 5 is a sweet upgrade.jammer42777 wrote:hmmm I I might get the voxengo EQ, LF max and possibly LF punch, but I think that the sonar fx plugins will eventually be my bread and butter plugs.

Thank you for your input, I will upgrade later this year (there are some sample libs that I need to get first)sounddesigner wrote:I'm sure you know you and your music more then any of us could ever. The Sonitus FX are very good. The Voxengo FX are even better. The real question is what works for your ears and your music. Only one way to find that out ...
One note about Sonitus - I've found the Sonitus dynamics processors go into distortion much too easily and with no warning. Be careful with it - I've ruined more than one track without realizing what I was doing until it was too late ...

I also find that the Sonitus compressor will darken the high end a lot more easily than most comps. Maybe this was intentional, but it's not something I personally care for too much so I don't use it. I still prefer the old Timeworks effects from Sonar 2 for EQ and compression over the Sonitus stuff. CompressorX is polite, but does the job, and the EQ is just so easy to use on the second page that when I need a quick cut on something like background vocals it's become my go to EQ simple for ease of use and speed.
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

If you decide to wait 5 months or more to upgrade then you may want to hold out for Sonar 6, Cakewalk releases upgrades quite frequently (i think once a year) and some people get caught in the predicument where they upgrade to one version and the next higher version is released shortly after. If you don't upgrade to sonar 5 long before 6 or in the appointed grace period (where you'll get sonar 6 for free) then your purchase may not look so good considering Sonar 6 comes with all of Sonar 5's features and more. This is just something to keep in mind if you decide to wait a long time to upgrade.jammer42777 wrote:Thank you for your input, I will upgrade later this year (there are some sample libs that I need to get first)sounddesigner wrote:I'm sure you know you and your music more then any of us could ever. at namm cakewalk said in april they were releasing sonar 5 bundled with either an edirol usb or if you prefer an edirol firewire soundcard...

I use Sonar 5 Producer and used only Sonitus FX and a couple of Voxengo plugs. I firmly believe the Sonitus are the most underated package out. Their reverb is clean and very useable. The Delay is one of the best and easiest to use. The Mutiband is a great tool once you learn how to use it. The Modulator is fair and the EQ is very useable.
That being said - if all I had was Sonitus then I would do fine but I wanted more and I chose 2 Waves Packages (Native Power and Bundle II) over Voxengo. I personally think the Sonitus is as good or better iin some plugs than Voxengo when comparing plug with plug. Though Voxengo has a better arsonal of plugs when it comes down to the basics I like Sonitus - easy to use and easy on the CPU. Though I believe the Comps from Voxengo are probaly superior though I have great respect for Aleksey and feel he is on the rise and could surpass many of the big guys out there and may have passed some already.
Bottom line - if you stick with Sonitus then at least get Voxengo's Elephant (great limiter) and one of the EQ's and the Marquis and you will be in good shape.
I'd like for Aleksey to redo his interfaces more.
Every ear and wallet is different
God bless

i have both and i couldn't get by without them
i tend to use Sonitus per track and the Voxengo plugs on full mix or very specific track types
if I had to say anything the Voxengo plugs are generally cleaner and more transparent, but there are plenty of uses for both.
