sorry if this has been answered somewhere,
what format is recommended for machfive? I gotta admit I don't know any of the formats it came with except for soundfont, and I don't know much about that.
is soundfont my best, or only choice?
thanks

Hi bongo_X,
Are you on a Mac or a PC?
I have never tried MachFive but most major samplers can import soundfonts. I just browsed through the MOTU website and they do not seem to mention soundfont but this does not necessarily mean that it can't use them.
You should try to find in your manual, or check with Motu's support, if and how it can use soundfonts.
You're other options are either to use the wave files to build your own Prepared Rhodes programs or if you have a conversion software, to convert the soundfont to a format that MachFive can read. The first option will take more time but it can be very rewarding, it's the best way to learn what your sampler can do and you can also create your own unique Prepared Rhodes programs.
Motu's website does say that MachFive can import GigaStudio files. At the present, the Prepared Rhodes is not available in this format but it may be soon. I am currently testing and learning GigaStudio.
I hope that this helps and do not hesitate to contact me again if you have more questions.

I'm on a mac and I think I imported the soundfont when I got the Julie's sounds. there is a conversion program that comes with machfive called uvi-extract that will import many formats. I just wanted to make sure that soundfont was the best option since I don't know much about the formats.
thanks for your help

Once the soundfont is imported, it's preferable to save it in the MachFive format and customize it to better suit your needs in your sampler.
The other formats included in the current Prepared Rhodes multi-formats download are specific to different applications, except for the wave files themselves.
