how was it for you (yea I see a guy doing the oppistite LOL!) to switch?
I do so many styles and doing midi moch up orchestrations in Sonar is real pain, my vsts have been driving my crazy lately, my controller modwheel stuff is also been driving me crazy too! Sonar doesn't even have multiple lane controllers!

Is Cubase a totally different animal interms of work flow compared to Sonar?will I have to buy a Tutorial DVD on it or do you think I can just jump in and start mixing and doing production? ie...buss routing, fx, etc.

I see it has a great score editor too though I use Sibelius for that stuff.
I really like that warp audio stretcing it has too!
all my vsts would work no prob

I am real close to switching, hence why I haven't upgraded to Sonar 5.2 yet.

I'm the guy that started the other thread. I will say, in my opinion, Cubase has a better GUI and it is much easier to do any kind of midi programming. I'm just going to rebuy Cubase... Sonar just wont meet my needs for midi stuff.

Sonars midi sucks man!! seriously I at the end of the line with midi for Sonar. I have so many projects I have finish in Sonar(sad) but I won't start any new ones. Cubase SX3 looks sweet!!

Uh, how about seeing what you've missed in the last two versions (since you're still on v.3) before claiming Sonar 5 is behind Cubase?

Multilane tracks came in Sonar 4. Have you even tried the demo for v.5 yet?

there is no mulilane controllers in the piano roll for sonar in any version.
well I have decided I am switching buying SX3 tomorrow, will be a cubase producer person from now on...
I'll still have Sonar 3 and Project 5v2.
but I won't start any new projects in Sonar 3 anymore.

Its not for idiots but you're clearly well past the basic so I can't see you having a problem, I find SX very flexible. Not just for different styles of music but for trying different techniques with the same music style. If Sonar is problematic with VST that would be all the prompting I'd need. If I had a criticism it would be cpu demands. I do wish it was a little more efficient in that department. One of the advantages Logic has I believe.
I'm presently sketching out an orchestral piece. I've got 35 tracks of midi and 3 instances of an orchestral Vst. I have to transfer to audio almost straight away or the system will start falling down(I don't find freezing that useful). When I'm satisfied I've got everything right I'll rerecord with Gigastudio. It would be great not to have to do the first set of audio but its quicker than crashing all the time.

Most musos I know don't rate the score editing as highly as Sebelius but I don't use it much at the moment. When the time comes I think I'll still get Sebelius.

Virutal Instruments Magazine No. 5 out now does an awesome write up on this in that issue.
Sonar has caused me one to many problems with Vst's yea me done with that now.
Cubase sounds like I made a good choice for doing film music games etc. (at the web site) yea very cool looking too Ha!

I think my days with sonar is coming to a close too...

UAD-1 problems, crashes with other VST plugs, and vanishing Sonar in the middle of recording...

Returning to the VST creators... Good bye headaches...

As a long time Cubase user 3.xx to SX-3.xxx I can just say you are trading a headache on the left side of your brain to a headache on the right side. Cubase has a tremendous number of awesome features.............that have been tremendously poorly implemented, half finished or abondoned altogether. Typically if you are comfortable in a host, don't switch. The grass is NOT greener. If you hate it, make sure you know WHY. There are going to be many things that you won't like about Cubase MIDI. If you use external synths, it is actually getting worse version by version instead of better. Just prepared to gain a lot, but lose a lot as well.

well we'll have to see more then a few of my friends use Cubase SX3 with great success!! I still have Sonar 3 Producer so it's not big deal, but I already ordered Cubase SX3 and I am excited about it! Pretty much everyone I know uses it as there sequencer too so that will Cool!
there are always problems with a host at some point it's windows after all

in the end I feel I made the right decision going the Cubase Rout.
Oh I really know why I can't stand Sonar anymore oh boy do I ever...

Anywayz the vst nightmares I have had more then make up for it.
