Hello everyone,

I was just wondering if there are any other free convolution reverbs out there for PC than SIR. Don't get me wrong, I still think SIR is awesome, but the latency is an issue that sometimes gets on my nerves :shock:

So, if you know some free convolution reverbs, feel free to let me know :)

Latency is inherent to convolution (as with any FFT based process), I'm afraid.

Revolverb. Last time I checked the link wasn't working anymore. Plus it's rather crashy on some machines/hosts.
You may also want to try Voxengos Boogex. Won't allow for any tweakings of the reverb, but latency is low (it's some sort of amp sim originally).

Thanks Sascha, I'll check out Revolverb and Boogex.

@cron
I know that convolution always introduces latency, but 8900andsomewhat samples is quite a lot imho.

Does anyone know if Cubase SL3 comes with a convolution reverb (like Logic 7 on mac does)?
Since I plan to upgrade to SL3 it would save time and work to look for other free convolution reverbs :)

no latency in th IR in Orion Platinum.

There's no convolution reverb in Cubase.
Btw, SpaceDesigner in Logic is quite special, as it doesn't actually work with the impulses themselves but converts them to the internal format first. That's why it's so highly efficient. Some people don't like its quality it seems. I never noticed when fooling around with it (still now own Mac for me though, so I'm not sure).

You can get Revolverb here

Cool - I allready have it, but that's always good to know.

@Krakatau
Sure they would, but a little more tweaking options would be nice :wink:
But still thanks for the links.

I use Voxengo Impulse, which comes with the AnalogFlux bundle, it has the same quality as Pristine Space and you can set the latency to a very low value. I use it everytime.

EDIT: Ouch! you meant free... anyways, AnalogFlux is not so expensive and I consider all plugs on it a must have.

Elevayta Convo Boy Lite.

Already half the latency of SIR

FREE to donate. For a very modest price, you can go for the licensed version and reduce latency further + other features.

23ms is still beyond anything making sense for realtime playing.

For speaker cabinets 23ms is too much, but for cathedral halls etc it should be fine.
My MusicCalc is temporary offline.

You guys are nuts for using it in realtime anyhow. When playing or singing, you're so "in the moment" that any medium-quality reverb should give you the placebo effect while you're tracking. Heck, engineers/producers will sometimes give singers the WRONG reverb (or too much reverb) while tracking to boost confidence, all the while knowing that it won't be in the final cut. I don't know anyone who effectively "plays off" their reverb tails in realtime in a way that makes the original reverb an absolute "must-keep". Then, once you're done tracking, you just swap out the algo-based reverb for the Convolved one.

If it's not realtime, latency should be a total non-issue, all of the major hosts having PDC.

I'm sure there are people who will argue (possibly for the sake of arguing, which I am guilty of doing myself) that with ambient tracks and huge reverb tails, you CAN play off the reverb tail, and I won't disagree. But I'm also willing to be that when you put the convolved reverb into place, you can still achieve the same or even better (sometimes BECAUSE it's different) result.

How many of us track with one reverb, even thinking that it'll be the keeper, only to ultimately swap it out in place of another one later? All of us have done it at some time or another, and few of us would ever think that we were doing something wrong by going with a different 'verb later.
