There's a good comparison of limiters in this months SOS,

Up your budget and get the still reasonably priced Ozone 3. It has a very good limiter but also Multiband compressor & EQ. To my ears the exciter is a bit too harsh and I never bother with the stereo widener

I use Elephant since a couple of years, or three...

I was accustomed to the sound of freeware limiters, but when I first used Elephant I could hear a huge difference, in a nutshell, is very very clean.

I mostly use the EL2 algorythm, is perfect for all kind of sound, from subtle maximizing or to get a very loud signal without noticeable punch.

EL3 is good too, but has more punch, useful for other materials.

I'm really happy with it...you can hear my mixes here www.myspace.com/spyrofunk

MPL-1 is an absurd steal at its current price; run don't walk to the Kjaerhus store. Ozone is overkill, and I, for one, don't think its limiter is anything to write home about (no offense to owners, I just wasn't sold).

Voxengo Elephant :) No other limiter comes closely to Elephant. If you need a bit more transparency, the new MPL from Kjaerhus is my second choice.

Yeah, highly underrated, those. That reminds me: I need to buy those sometime. I wonder how his sales are?

Another vote for Elephant 2--the best native limiter to my ear, unless you move to something like the limiter in PowerCore/MD3 from the System 6000.

Seems like Elephant is seen as a little more colorful, louder and more proven. MPL-1 is more transparent but perhaps can't be pushed quite as hard? I'm not sure that my ears can really tell, so I'm relying on other opinions since I don't just make music for my own listening.
Can you post a snippet of your music? You'd definitely get some specific recommendations in that case!

Awesome, thanks! I guess that stuff is already maximized, eh? I was thinking we could try out the different maximizers on a un-mastered mix and see what fits best...
