Logic 5.5 for Free??

First off, let me just say I do not condone software cracking or anything illegal like that. But do you think it would be morally wrong to acquire Emagic Logic 5.5, a discontinued product, through ...erm... unconventional methods?
I mean, if there's no way for Emagic to earn money off PC users, it's no big deal, right?
What do you guyz think???

I still see Logic 5.5 in stores from time to time on blowout. Just because it's discontinued doesn't mean you can't get it legitimately. I think you can also get a license transfer since it's a dongle based product. But this thread is probably subject to removal for all I know so I wont write any more.

i dunno. when you look at it in a moral way then yes its wrong. but apples buisness practices were moraly disgusting. im sure theres alot of good moral people who would very much buy logic if they could. of course theres those who would never pay for a piece of software in there life. alot of producers just want to try a great program that they never can try now. but im a very open minded person. i would compare it to the old wiccan adage. "if it harm none do as ye will" rememember though taking anything that doesnt belong to you will always be wrong under every circumstance

If it can no longer be purchased according to the DMCA I it is legal to use cracked versions. 5.5 is still being sold though. Wait another 2 years then you'll be able to legally use a cracked version. But oh wait by then we'll have DMCA II which makes it illegal to even look at your software through your friend's sunglasses.

I would say if you can be bothered to try and get it working then go right ahead.
I would also suggest that for not alot of money there are far more powerful and compatible programs out there now (offline bounce is a wonderful thing)
Kind regards

I'm still using 5.5.1 for "midi" (vst), is there really something as good for midi editing ? (with all those nice functions like midi compression, gate, loop, etc.) Oh, and with a score view too.daverich wrote:I would say if you can be bothered to try and get it working then go right ahead.

I bought samplitude when v8 was released, but only use it for audio (after I bounced from logic).

If the product's been discontinued, I don't see how it'd be hurting anyone. It's not like Emagic's going to show up at your door and demand you pay them for something they officially stopped selling. If it can still be bought, though... well that's a toughy. If it can still be bought new, then save up for it. If the only way to buy one is to get one off eBay or something, then what the hell's the difference?

The product called Logic is not discontinued. Logic is going strong and is one of Apples Pro Apps. The fact that Logic PC is discontinued is irrelevant, Apple own the program and all its intellectual property, a significant part of which is still contained in the Logic 7 core code.
Logic will not magically fall into the public domain while it's owned by Apple.
So no, it's not morally or legally right to "acquire" a copy.

Logic can still be purchased through Apple and music dealers. The fact that you can't buy Logic PC 5.5.1 is irrelevant. You can't buy the Mac version 6 eaither, that doesn't mean Apple want everyone to have it for free and not buy the current version new.

But EXT doesn't have support for video and score editing like Logic did, right? I wouldn't say EXT's better; just different.D-Fusion wrote:Have'nt this been discussed before?
If i where you i would just buy EXT (Wich is much better and will be even better when V2 comes out)
