Im thinking of going for the flexi pack since the may sale is on.

Ive wanted one for a while, but I have 2 big reservations about it

1) NForce 4 compatibility

2) I cant try before I buy like native, and no local shops seem to want to carry a demo.

Im quite happy with my native plugs, I use marquis, gac 1, gmo 1, analog flux suite, sonitus, and ozone.

I have a feeling that I will probably be slightly disappointed by a UAD sound wise, but the CPU savings are intriguing.

I dont want to know what is better between native and UAD, I want user experiences. anyone?

1) is an issue but supposedly can be resolved by putting the card in an expansion chassis. Soundwise you won't be disappointed, that much I can guarantee.
UAD-2 (or whatever it'll be called) seems to be around the corner, though. So you may want to wait until these are out, and if it's only to get UAD-1s really cheap.

If my experience is anything to go by, you might initially be slightly dissapointed because your expectations are understandably high, but then as you get to know the better plugs you'll start to understand why they are so good and after a few weeks will be totally sold on the whole UAD thing.

If not, I may even eat my hat...

As beej said , I think you come to appreciate the quality of the plug-ins over time. A couple of instant wows for me were the pultec pro, precision limiter and the plate 140. For the compressors , I had to spend a lot of time with in order to hear that sound and to me they still aren't that much better than the native plug-ins. The space echo also knocked my socks off ( I haven't purchased it yet).

About half a year ago, I mainly bought the UAD card for the compressors. Being used to native vst compressors, I had to get used to them. They can sound very subtle, and I've wondered whether I couldn't get such a sound from the compressors I already had. I haven't really tried that too hard, because in the past few weeks I finished some recordings, and people praise the mixes for a certain smooth silkyness quality they have, which I'm pretty sure is due to the UAD compressors. Generally speaking, if you find a setting where you just not hear them pumping, the compressors are at there best.

I didn't find anything on a May sale, by the way.

Okay excuse my "noobness", but just to understand that. PowerCore or UAD... both are DSP "add on" cards, right? I can use my regular recording hardware (PCI) and the DSP card at the same time.

Or can I only use either of those two. I was never really into DSP cards, that's why I'm asking.

And there is a sale? Didn't find anything either.

Check the UAD forum about compatibility, it's been discussed.

You can return it if you don't like it, we'll have no problem selling an open-box of these.

I'll bet the opposite happens, you'll be blown away by the plugs but bummed that using the card does hit your CPU a tad.

What do you want to know exactly? Unless I'm so drained from a long day at work that I missed it, the only question seems to be about the Nforce board.

Still... can I use both cards simultaneously, or only either of them at once. DSP cards are add-on cards, aren't they.

PS: How far goes the groupbuy down?

You should be able to use the different DSP cards together, although some of the newer dual core chipsets have trouble with it. The Group Buy probably won't go any lower, the whole "semi-secret" aspect of it pretty much guarantees that.

Er... I didn't even have the chance to see the actual price, only the regular one with 699$.

And my problem is... if I get a DSP card like the UAD or a Powercore... can I use the card simultaneously with my Terratec (for example: Recording with the Terratec, and limiting the recording with the UAD at the same time) or not.

Like I said... I've seen those cards in action, but I was never really into it and how they work together with recording cards.

You would normally load the UAD-1 as plug-ins while mixing, not as live plug-ins while tracking, because they have latency. If you need live plug-ins that you can record through with no latency, you'll need to get a Scope or E-mu card & record directly through their inputs, bypassing your Terratec.

Okay but after the recording, while mixing:
- The terratec is the I/O card and general audio device
- The DSP card is an accelerated device for plugins/instruments that works as "add on" to my system. (like a coprocessor that only runs plugins).

So both cards run simultaneously.

UAD- I may go for it by end of month
