I can't find anyway to connect the MIDI out of my VSTi plugin to the MIDI out port via Live 5. Has anybody done this before? It actually appears that there is no way to do this in Live 5 since there is no MIDI "patching" mechanism for using a VSTi as the MIDI input source.

MY QUESTION IS: Has anybody successfully set up a VSTi plugin in Live 5 that can send MIDI out and on to the MIDI out port?

It also appears that Orion Platinum 6.2 has this same issue (no way to patch MIDI out from a VSTi to a MIDI out port).

Sonar 5.1 had this problem too, but now that 5.2 has come out, there is now a "patching" mechanism to acheive this and MIDI out of VSTi and into the host and onto the MIDI out port is now possible.

I can't believe it has taken some hosts this long to get around to this.

Thanks,

are you on PC or MAC?

If you're using a PC try

http://www.midiox.com/

It should allow you to route MIDI from Live to MIDI-OX then out to your hardware MIDI out:)

" You can use MIDI-OX in conjunction with MIDI Yoke to achieve a virtual multi-client output. Launch an instance of MIDI-OX. In MIDI Devices... dialog, select MIDI Yoke 1 driver as input and select your single client hardware port as output. In each application that you wish to share the output driver, open MIDI Yoke 1 as output. Although I mention MIDI Yoke 1, it can be any MIDI Yoke port as long as they all use the same port number."

If I am correct in my assumption of what you attempting to achieve (control an external device with a vsti that outputs midi?).
Try this.
Set up you midi channel with the vsti.
Set up another midi channel & ser it's 'midi from' to receive from the first channel.
Now set the second channels 'midi to' to your external device/hardware (if it doesn't show up you will need to choose 'configure' & set it as an active midi output).
I use no external devices, so I am only guessing here, there may also be other considerations regarding pdc, timecode etc.

Not sure what you are trying to do?

If you are trying to send midi to an external synth for example, that can be done. Many VSTi synth's do not generate midi say from their own internal arpeggiator for example, they only pass it through. As long as your vst outputs midi, this should work.

On the Mac you would go to the preferences, midi/sync page at the bottom is control devices output. Select your device from there. Then create a new midi track if you dont have one and that device will be an option in the mixer output for that track
