Am I just imagining things and it never did?
I'm at my wits end, it was second nature to me and it just disappeared for no good reason yesterday
Stupid thing!
I don't get it , it still works for "new folder" and a bunch of other things , so the button is still OK.

I tried assigning a silly hotkey but it just doesn't feel the same!

Stupid thing simply forgetting it!

Any hints? Like a special key command from the yellow list tht actually means 'right click?"

Thanks,
Marco :)

"Why doesn't Right click pop up the Logic toolbox anymore???"

Go look in your preferences. Default behaviour for Logic is that you can assign a different tool to each button (arrow on left, mute tool on right for example), but there is a preference option for the "Cubase" behaviour, where clicking the right button brings up the toolbox.

Logic Pro (Mac): Logic Pro -> Preferences -> Global -> Editing: Right mouse button "opens toolbox"
I can't remember if this function was in the PC version...

Personally, I prefer to use the ESC key to bring up the toolbox under the cursor, and use the two mouse buttons for different tools, but it's up to you.... While the toolbox is onscreen you can also use the number keys to select a tool directly...

thankks beej, does't work though, as per usual I can't find it in the prefs, i never can...

That's the way I have mine set up! So it does work... It's in General prefs... :)

No worky :(

It's doing that Logic thing, some feature acting up for no good reason and it's lost forever..

Someone over on logicuser.de told me i could set my right mouse button to trigger 'escape' via the mouse driver –but there is none. Only my mouse showing up in the usb panel.

one wonders though if there 's no checkbox for it in any drop down menu, how come it worked in the first place (and i even recall a time of yore when it didn't work yet..
I sometimes think this bloody thing is haunted!

You've never mentioned what version you are running. I couldn't find it in the prefs on my PC 5.5.1 version so it may well have been introduced in 6 onwards. It's definitely there and working in Logic Pro 7.

But you say you had it doing this before, so maybe you are on the Mac version?

If you are on WIndows then, you are out of luck. Yes, you could get some third party util to effectively press "ESC" for you when you right click, but then you're stuck with it - and you might as well just press ESC yourself.

Incidentally, it's much quicker to hit esc when switching tools, and esc-1, esc-2 to select individual tools. Selecting it the Cubase way requires three mouse clicks and careful mouse-movement, whereas the key command way gets it done in a fraction of the time without needing to think. You may think that half a second isn't much time, but when you use it hundreds of times a day, it soon adds up.

Hey beej thanks for the continued interest because this is weird and annoying! :D

I'm on Express 6 running on an oldish G4.

Post

So you can hold down esc and press 1, 2, 3 on the keyboard to select the diff tools? I had no idea, I always just pressed esc then selected the tool with the moune. Nice trick :)

Post

hm hm hm...

esc doesn't do anything for me because I'm a leftie :D making it kind of cumbersome!

So I chose the 'minus' button on my number pad to do the job – under protest!!!!
It'll take me ages to wean myself off of the right click thing..

Having said tht yeah Jackson, it's still amazing how many little tricks there are to it :)

Post

I'm full of interesting Logic tricks... :)

Edit: couldn't find the option in Logic Pro 6.4.3 either - must be a Logic 7 thing.

Which is all the more confusing since you say it was working like this for you in Logic 6, despite the function not being there. You sure you weren't using 7?

I feel like an amputee

Absolutely ;)

It's haunted, I tell thee!

I dimly remember discovering it , it was serendiptiy and being like, 'this is kind of cool!' and now it's gone like *snip* this ..that would've been 6 -12 months ago
What's interesting though , what DOES hapen when I right click is the magnifying glass shows for the tiny fraction of a second. I also remeber this behavior from before the 'Golden Toolbox Age' ..

Marco :)

Well is it because you have the magnifying glass tool assigned to the right button?
(You know clicking on a tool with the right button assigns that tool to the right button?
And that control-clicking a tool gives a third?

This is awesome for comping - I usually have the arrow tool on the left button, the mute tool on the right, and the scissors tool on control-click, and you can really quickly cut up and comp takes on the fly...

Just found this: no mention of the Logic version but this is what it's like in Logic 7:

Hey beej!

I don't think I have anything assigned to it in the proper sense (Logic won't let me either, there's no such option)

My left button defaults to arrow, and the right button kind of mimicks whatever tool is the current left button-tool without actually doing anything except for this brief flash of something that might or mighn't be the magnifying glass – it's really fast.

This is looking like a bug to me tbh.. like something in Logic can't decide if the right click toolbox thingy is there or not.

Is there a key command to say 'right click brings up toolbox' maybe?
I might be accidentally using that command, switching it on and off without knowing, there's a viable theory!

Marco :)

edit: I checked the wiki tutorial thing and my drop down menu is a carbon copy of the onwe there, minus the right-click checkbox!
So like you said, I really shouldn't be able to do it at all..

OK two theories:
-Logic was just acting up and it was ind of a 'positive bug' which I only enjoyed for so long
-there is a hidden key command to make the right button show the toolbox, making up for the lack of the dialogue.

Marco :)
