hello. first time poster long time reader.
Anyway, I have a question about eq. I am using a distorted
guitar sound and putting it through amplitube. I am having trouble with the sound being too shrill and cutting right throught the mix
Dopping the treble or prescence is nor really helping.

Can anyone advise on how you would eq a toppy distorted guitar please? Not so much the tool to use, but rather, what sort of frequncies to be manipulating, etc.

get the free SPAN plugin from voxengo.com and check the frequencies!

Just for the sake of clarity, You running a clean, dry guitar signal through Amplitube, right? And You're using a DI?

No. It's a clean guitar sample from Sampletank. Going through Amplitube.

Ok, these clean guitar samples, when running through another amplifier *might* have the problems build in already as most likely they've been sampled using an amp as well.
After all, you may end up with certain frequencies emphazised twice.
So, the SPAN tip wasn't all that bad for a start. Make sure (for a test only, you can remove them later on) to run a chain of Sampletank > ParamEQ > SPAN > ParamEQ > Amplitube > EQ > SPAN. Bypass the EQs for a start and have a look at both SPAN instances.
Will the first instance show a certain boost around whatever frequency already (look at anything between, say, 1 and 5 kHz)? Will the second SPAN show an even greater amount of boost in the same range?
If so, you should in any case try to sort out the boost with the first EQ (a parametric EQ is almost certainly required) for a start. Keep looking at both SPAN instances.
What you will need to find out is about how much the post-ST, pre-AT EQ will affect the end result. If it doesn't (or not enough), AT would be the culprit and you'd have to use the second EQ as well.
