Native Alternatives to UAD-1

Hi, everyone.

This is my first post but I have frequented this site for the longest. I have a UAD-1 card that I am thinking of selling but I wanted someone's opinion on what native plugins compare to the compressors and eqs available on the UAD-1. I only use the compressors and nothing else. I have not purchased any of the additional plugins available other than the free Dreamverb sometime. While I know the effects are top notch, I need something that is more portable and therefore, the PCI card format is of no use to me.

Any suggestions? Alternatively, is there a firewire effects rack coming down the pipeline?

Nomad Factory Analog Signature Pack and Waves SSL 4000 got excellent reviews in May's Future Music.

GCO-1, GEQ-7, GAC-1, Gpp-1, MPL-1 . Gotta love those Kjaerhus plugs.
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

In my opinion, the strong UAD plugs are the 1176LN, the LA2A, the Fairchild, the EMT, and the Precision Limiter. As far as I know, there aren't any native emulations of those particular classic dynamics units, except for Bomb Factory/Digidesign, which are ProTools only.

As for the reverbs, the Princeton Digital VST plugs (Windows only  ) are really nice, including the plate, though not an EMT emulation. Probably not difficult to find some IRs of the EMT 140 for use in a convolution reverb.

The URS plugs are probably the finest native emulations EQs on the market today. Not only do they sound excellent, but they don't tax the processor excessively. I haven't tried their compressors yet so can't comment authoritatively, but I have high hopes. The TriTone Digital comvolution Pluggo EQs are also great (ValveTone and HydraTone), though they are quite a bit more processor-intensive. ColorTone Pro is also really cool, but it's not a compressor/limiter. It uses convolution to emulate various signal paths and processors.

As for mastering-type limiters, there's lots of good ones to choose from: Waves, WaveArts, iZotope, blah, blah, blah...

But those compressors are gonna be hard to replace if you get rid of your UAD.

Waves SSL sound fantastic - the best I've heard.

The Urs are good and as someone else said low on the cpu but I really don't think there worth the price. Go for hydratone and valvetone if you want some real character and check out the voxengo ones for more bread and butter eqing. For a compressor though it has to be voxengo's marquis though you may want another comp for tracking as well. Also maybe check out the psp master comp although I use it more on stems than the whole mix and would use it a lot more but its a real cpu hog.

Yes. Focusrite's Liquid Mix and SSL's Duende. Both seem quite powerful. No word on the sound yet.

Definitely check the Voxengo Marquis Compressor, Kjaerhus GCO-1 compressor and all of the Tritone Digital plugins, I haven't heard any other native stuff that compares to them.

You could go for the Powercore Firewire with the Sony Oxford plugs but that lot will set you back a fair bit.
