hi

im looking for an audiounit plugin, that works similar like the inflator or phoenix.
these two plugins are very good, but there is nothing native available as good as these.
somebody knows a good native distrotion plugin?

thanks

In case of Inflator, download the free Func-Shaper, enter a simple parabolic function and you've got what the Inflator does - with Curve/Mix at 100%.

Looks like it's PC-only.

TriTone's ColorTone Pro might be a good alternative to Phoenix. I'm not sure exactly what the Inflator does? I always just assumed it was a limiter. Is it a tape compression/saturation emulation also?

i tries colortone, and its nice, but its very cpu hungry...

is inflator just a simple waveshaper?

According to the patent, yes. Followed by a limiter.

Got a link? Everything I've read about Inflator says it's a psychoacoustic process that can increase the perceived loudness without affecting the dynamics. Doesn't sound at all like a limiter, which is all about affecting dynamics. If you want to read what the developer has to say about it, check out Paul Frindle's posts in this thread:

http://www.musicplayer.com/cgi-bin/ulti ... 3;t=006172

He makes a point of stating that it's not a limiter and that it's not meant to replace a limiter but rather to be used after any limiting/compression has been added.

The two main uses for Inflator would be to either make already loud music even louder without squashing it or to maintain the same loudness while reducing compression to get some more dynamics.

AFAIK, there's no native plugin that can do this.

The essential thing is the waveshaper. You can also blend between the processed and unprocessed signal and regulate the graph. I think there is a limiter after this in the signal path to get rid of peaks, though.
Check the patent online, just enter the developers name at the US patents office's database website.

Not for AU, but maybe this one ... Image :|

The result of the inflator effect you could try to emulate with a combination of any exciting, enhancing effects or simple with an eq or saturation. Okay, maybe it wouldn'T be the same but you will go in this direction with that solution. For distortion you can try my mag from nick whitehurst or tbt saturated driver or ukm nonlin or H2O or any other saturation effect.
The inflator-effect isn't that unique it's worth to buy it for 369 Euro.
