MdspCompressor and the others

Hi Guys,

I was thinking about this collection of plugins from mdsp and I was wondering why I dont use them especially the compressor plugin because I normally like trying new ones out.

Theres a few things I dont like them...

I dont like the way theres no indication of the reduction of the signal when using the compressor. Theres alot to be said for using your ears but I do like to be able to see as well..

They take up quite alot of space of the screen which they dont particulary need to.

I dont use the reverb, because I would much rather use my favourite reverb and put a compressor after it.

I dont use the delay, I think because of the size of the gui again and also I kinda like knobs I can turn though I realize thats more of a personal preference. The gate is cool, and i think having a compressor in the delay is fine but I think the gui frustrates me.

I think all these plugs could do with some graphical representations of whats going on.

The flangers cool though. Its small and it has knobs. Perfect.! I've not been using it...cant remember why.. think i'll have a look and install.

I do realise they are free but I thought i'd voice my opinions.

I'd like to hear what other people think though.

thank you for your comments, I appreciate constructive critism.

I agree for the GUI, almost none of my plugins have a dedicated GUI, and I'm also frustrated by this. They all use the same GUI engine which is very helpful for me, but has its own limitations.

I'd like to think about these as a compromise between a full-blown dedicated GUI and boring default gui different from host to host.

for the ducking effects, If more host allowed side-chaining, I wouldn't have had to write those, and I reckon I'm not a reverb-expert.

to finish, I'd like to add that I'm not working actively on the plugin you mentionned anymore. I updated them in december and added a GUI for all but I don't really have so much time to work on them.

right now, I'm concentrating my effort on a smaller number of plugins like LiveCut and some which are not already released.

For other people: please continue with remarks like these.
It really helps making things better.
