Hi
I wanna knwo what's the best Ibanez TS-9 emulator plugin out there. It'd b good if its free. I hav tried the one from the SimulAnalog G-Suite and something callled the TSS-9 (Tube Screamer Secret), and i dunno which one's more authenic.

Hav u heard the TSS? I felt it couldn't b sounding like the real thing 2. It somewhere between a Big Muff Pi and a BOSS DS-1 (more towards the DS-1). I'm saying this coz it was very smooth, and killed most of the dybamics. I liked it, but not as a TS emulation.

Yeah, I think that the simanalog one is better also, but I dont really use either as i have an old tube screamer. It's a TS-808 though which I prefer to the TS-9. Thats a matter of taste though.

I'm a tubescreamer fan - i've been through a few real versions over the years. I have an Analogman modded TS-9 with the original 808 chip and quiet components etc, and I thought that was about as good as it gets. The TubeScreamer model in the PodXT is fairly close, but there's something about the real thing that is just better. The Simulanalog one is about as good as the Pod - i'm not sure if digital can get any closer. Analog distortion is probably worth going outside the box to get.

The other day I picked a cheap chinese overdrive box (I think the brand is Belkat - there's nothing on the pedal itself). This was ridiculously cheap - NZ$60, which is like US$30 or something. IMO, it makes my Analogman TS-9 sound cheap and fizzy - go figure.

If you're willing to go with hardware, you might try the Digitech Bad Monkey pedal --- it's only $40. I've never played through a TS, but the Bad Monkey gets compared to it a lot. My daughter got me one for Christmas, and I absolutely love the tone it gives me.

Edited: Hmm - the Bad Monkey seems like a contender. A Tubescreamer isn't to everyones taste, but if you like that smooth, warm, mid-rangey overdrive, they basically set the standard. There are so many big name guitarists who use, or have used, a tube screamer to get their recorded tone. SRV, The Edge, Peter Frampton, Santana, etc, etc,

Hey, Kiwburger -- I'd love it if you could find out the name of the Chinese pedal, and feed my Gear Acquisition Syndrome a bit more.... :P

On the Bad Monnkey -- Yeah, it kinda shocked me how good it sounds. I don't have a much of a history with Digitech stuff, but it never impressed me as being special. This pedal seems to be the exception to that rule.

Guitarzan, in an earlier KVR thread, turned me on to Mark Humphery, here: http://www.harmony-central.com/Effects/ ... key-1.html if you want to get a modded Monkey for an extra $30. I haven't done it yet, because I have too much other gear that I lust after right now. But I'll get around to it eventually. Unmodded, this is still easily the best overdrive pedal I've ever owned.

I'm understand the brand is called Belcat - it says Made in China on the box, but doesn't have any name or anything other than "Overdrive". I just happened to be in the music shop when this salesguy was showing them to the manager and, they were so cheap they decided to try some. I really liked what I was hearing, in a noisy shop with a small practice amp, so I ordered one for NZ$60. I found out they decided to retail them for NZ$160, because they are so good nobody would want to buy any of their brand name pedals!

It's hotter than a TS-9, with a bit more range of control. It's a true bypass, which is also a bonus.

Thanks, Kiwburger! A little googling finds a company at www.belcat.com that's the one you're talking about. They have a green pedal, the OVD-302 model, with nothing but the word 'Overdrive on the front. Looks like a Korean company that gets their stuff from China.

Unfortunately, I don't see a US location to buy from. Will keep an eye out to see if they get into this market. Especially if they stay at the $30 level...

Hey i jus saw a TS-9 emu on the Amplitube 2. Hows that? And tho this is off-topic, which is better in ur opinio, Amplitube2, Waves GTR2, or NI Guitar Rig 2?

GR2. Although, I'd still probably go with the POD XT Pro.
I do the microphone/amp thing, but sometimes the sims are just so much easier (and I only have one amp). :)
On a different note. I had a TS-9 and ended up getting rid of it. I still am thinking of getting one again, but I've been really happy with my Fulltone Fulldrive 2.

I love my TS-9! :D I would never get rid of it. My amp is irrelevant, all I need is to plug my TS-9 in front of it and its beaaauuutttiifffuuullll

Metal. No way, man. When I was a kid, I liked metal. I actually do not have a distortion pedal. I don't like it. I use the FullDrive for overdrive and a Diamond Fireburst for heavier overdrive/fuzz.
The bypass is an important issue. I use a Super Reverb, so the TS-9 would theoretically be the ideal pedal. As I said, I'll probably pick up an 808 or one from Analogman. It was quite nice. I want subtle overdrive. My Les Paul seems to drive everything a bit too hard. The Super Reverb doesn't distort at all.
