is there a plugin available which you can pan eq bands with, or just low freq one way & high freq the other?
im thinkin of mono recordings and soundbanks of piano + harps which you cannot accurately emulate unless low octave notes come from the left, and high octave notes from the right
mmmmm hmm?

that may help some

YES!!! Anarchy Sound Systems effects pack has Spectral Autopanner that does that to a TEE! You can have things static or modulated as you wish. That entire pack is really sweet and perfectly affordable.

I reckon I could make you one of these (and more) if you wanted.

Don't forget KlangLabs Multiband Stereofaker!

acidose made me a splitter that seperates a signal into 4 sweepable bands, as long as he doesn't mind you can have a copy of that.
no gui though cos i use it in mulch and bidule.

You could use panned stereo delays with fast delay times <30ms with some gentle cross feedbacking and use EQing to get rid of unwanted artefacts and/or to emulate acoustic differences (in a pseudo dynamic way) within a virual room. Use a headphone to start with but always check it on your monitors.

the main thing though is the hammer noise, which is usually all fairly in the low end. also, you have to remember you'll be panning upper harmonics from the lower notes as well. i'd say such an application of effects will sound a lot more fake than a piano in mono.
