decided to get organised - vsts in sonar 3 - sean ?

i have an inordiantely long list of vsts in sonar 3 which i normally do not care about...

but as i'm having my lunch and its sunny and i've just tidied my work machine up i'm feeling organised

i'm sure rabbyt had a little app called subsonar that would let me divide my menus up but i can't find his old webpage and as nice as viable hybrid is.... it doesn't fulfil the same role

can someone sort me out with a link and instructions if necessary.

i must be a bit stupid.... i can't get this to work

i opened sonar, ran subsonar, closed snoar and reopened it and no change.

my ssdat file is empty and 0kb...

am i being foolish ?

First rescan the vst's with the vst-adapter, when the scanning is finnished open sonar and close it.
Then run the subsonar.

subsonar doesn't have to be anywhere in particular does it ?

What version of the wrapper are you running, Steve? The current version of SUBsonar only works with the most recent generation of the adaptor (ie v4.something-or-other and later). Earlier versions of the adaptor used slightly different registry locations, so they wont work with this version.

In fact, you can use the little tool 'Check' on the following page to determine which 'generation' of adaptor you've got and whether you've got plugins wrapped under different versions...

thanks guys, works fine now.....

in a moment of intelligence i'd put subsonar in its own little folder but it was also on the desktop. i kept running the one on the desktop and checking the ssdat file of the one in the folder

i've just checked in sonar and it's worked nicely

i take it i just repeat the process every time i add a vst ?

edit, just read the docs properly and stopped being a lazy f**ker and answered my own question.

If you take all of your compression plugins and put them in a folder then run:

and change the names of all of the files to:

compressor whateverthenameofyourcompressoris.dll

ie:

compressor big.dll
compressor buzzywug.dll
compressor works-sometimes.dll
compressor uncle-freds.dll
compressor whizbang.dll

...then copy your files back to your vst directory, run the vst manager, delete the old entries and rescan... you will have a nifty, new folder in your menu called "compressor" that will have all of your compressors in it.

{You could do this by hand but bulk rename is one of the nicest programs known to man... you need a copy anyway. It will run recursively as well. You can fix the naming of every sample on your hard drive in just a few minutes.}

If you do the same with your other plugins you can build the same sort of naming/menu structure. Plugins with attendant folders will usually need to have the folder renamed as well {bulk rename will do those too.} You could do this with plugin manager but... the naming thing is permanent. Some synths {GalactiX} are picky about this and won't run once renamed... {just name them back} That's very seldom the case even with commercial software though and it's not that difficult to deal with a dozen or so software entries and a dozen or so folders in the menu...
