Exporting MIDI in Cubase SX 2.2

How do you export a single MIDI track in Cubase ?

Whenever I solo a MIDI track and "Export MIDI" it will export all the MIDI tracks in the selected area creating a mess of notes.

I've gotten into the habit of just exporting the audio, noting down the presets and effects, moving the MIDI tracks down to the bottom of the project, and deleting the VST instruments.

Does leaving a MIDI track that is not linked to a VST intruments tax the processor ?
