hi KVRians,
I'm trying to record chords in the piano roll but they are recorded as single notes. why does it do this?
i remember i posted this question a few years ago on the FL forums and no one responded(it sucks that i have to upgrade to access their forums)and gave up and started using Live. i dont know whre to look on the manual.any pointers are greatly appreciados.
Im still at version 4.12. btw

In piano roll go to the menu (little piano icon upper left hand corner) then go to chord.. that should do it!!.. Also you could try Chordspace and chordspace playa.. both work great!!

Press record and put three fingers down on your keyboard.
Seriously, what are you doing wrong? There's no secret to this, it just... does it. I can't even think of what you might be doing wrong. Do you have a monophonic keyboard controller? Do you have polyphony set to 1 in channel settings/misc?

thats exactly what im doin'. i press record, then start jammin on some chords and when i hit stop, the piano roll shows single notes! im using an oxygen 8 controller. it doesnt do this in Live.im baffled.
Cordelia::how do i check if polyphony is set to 1 in channel settings/mis? is this in FL, i dont see that setting in FL.
Lagrange:: i tried that, but thats for drawing chords in w mouse. i used to do that alot. what i want to do is play/record the chord in real time. thanks for heads up on those pgs, will check em out.
any other suggestions?

Click the button in the step sequencer- the one that says "sampler" or "Vanguard" or "pluck" or whatever VSTi you're using. This brings up the channel settings. Click the "misc" tab (near the top). On the left side mid way down it says "polyphony" and there's a little box that says "max" underneath. Make sure this is set to something higher than 1 (16 or 32 are common). Also, I forgot to add, if there are just little dashes in that box, that means "no limit to polyphony". Try it both ways.

ive figured it out.
no matter what number i set the polyphony box to,it doesnt record chords into piano roll unless i uncheck the "record to step sequencer" box in options>midi settings.If turned on, all recorded notes from MIDI keyboard will be put in the Step Sequencer, not in the Piano Roll. DUHHHH!!! thanks for the help Cordelia. I gotta lay off the weed!
