Does Sonar not like playing from 0 measures?

I would ask this in the Sonar forum, but I assume most of them are using exclusively Sonar and there doesn't seem to be many MIDI/softsynth users there.

In every host I've used or demo'd (eXT, Tracktion, Podium, FL Studio, Orion), the host has been able to play from the start of a song (with notes starting at 0 ticks) without any hiccups. Just rewind to the start, press play, and away you go.

However, I'm finding that Sonar doesn't seem to like doing this? And the advice I've been given so far is "just start your song a measure later". :?: Why?

It doesn't matter how much latency I set for ASIO etc., I either get a 'pop' start to the measure, a missing note, or the attack missing off the note. Even the count-in for the audio metronome seems to be affected. The first 'tick' of the metronome is quieter (I assume, becuase the first portion of the sound sample is missing).

Does anyone know what's causing this? Or can certain buffers in the .INI files be increased etc.?

I really don't want to use WDM drivers for the obvious reason.

Hmmm sounds weird, the only time I've had weirdness like that is using FL under rewire within Sonar.

Also why don't you want to use the WDM drivers? I'm curious, am I missing something about them, are they the reason the audio engine drops out so much?

Good luck with the sonar forum, it can be, er, 'interesting' trying to get help there unless you are 'one of them' :(

Thanks Hunter, after doing some more research (including an online interview with Ron Kuper) I realised that I've been completely mistaken about WDM drivers. ( and for the record, WDM has solved the problem I was having :) )

It's just my memories of early Windows 95/98 audio drivers that made me think WDM was worse than ASIO (I must've been thinking about MMD).

Come to think of it, I'm using ASIO4ALL... which is, of course... nothing less than a wrapper on top of the existing WDM driver for your soundcard. (simply tricks apps into thinking it's a regular ASIO driver)

So, there's no reason (afaik) to be using ASIO4ALL at all in Sonar. Playback is fine now.
