Is there a freebie thats as good as this one? I went to their site and listened to the demos and they sound very impressive, but they dont have a demo to try out.

they do have a 30-day refund policy, though, and stick to it. so if you don't like it, you can return it, no questions asked.
if that does not appeal to you, you could give tinygod's murmur and murmur pro a try.

I don't think anyone ever felt the need to 'return'one of the Audiodamage products
. a.o. because they're unique, a lot of fun, and last but not least: you're entitled to membership of the very secret Audiodamage users club
. A club members benefit is that you're allowed to use your Audiodamage products in all your songs
.

you could try x3nogate.
i think it is still downloadable from my site: HERE
but i am a huge fan of audio damage stuff. I would reccomend them. If you like BigSeq, i say go for it.
I am a Ratshack Reverb user myself
:D:D nothing quite like audiodamage out there. Top sound quality!

Just click on the Xenogate picture. Link works for me.
Nothing I know does quite what BigSeq does. It has a few features like the on/off gating for each filter step and the decay lag for each step that work differently than other things I've tried, both free or commercial.
That said you could make do with an amp gate chained into a distortion effect into a step filter, and get reasonable results. Lots of amp gates around (try scuzzphut, Tiny God's Tinygate or mgAudio's Triggergate) although no freeware stereo gates I can think of (with individual gating for each channel). Use Audio Damages's Fuzz+ 2 for distortion, and then a stepfilter like mnb pcf1 or Tiny God's Murmur.

In fact I did just that. Sounded nothing like BigSeq, but it was pretty cool. In honour of your search, here's a clip of an oscillator run through that combo with BigSeq coming in on top of it processing the same oscillator.shamann wrote:mgAudio's Triggergate...AD Fuzz+ 2...mnb pcf1
download the clip

Sorry, I must have had mfb on the brain from looking at their hardware filter recently.blortblort wrote:...err, I'll probably recognize once ya tell me, but what's a mfb pcf1?

A quick note: if you can find stuff that does the other parts of the equation, the distortion in BigSeq is the same as the distortion in FuzzPlus2, so theoretically you can get the same sound. The filter in BigSeq is a unique one of my own design, a heavily modified Chamberlain 2 pole. So, it's going to be basically impossible to recreate that with another plugin.
But that said, to recreate the exact signal chain, you would go filter->distortion->VCA, so you would put the stepfilter first, then FuzzPlus2, then whatever you're gating with.

I can't think of anything that has the on/off switches for individual filter steps the same way BigSeq does either. I think that is my favourite BigSeq feature, you can get a lot of good effects from working with the lag on the crossover between on-steps and off-steps.Crandall1 wrote:The filter in BigSeq is a unique one of my own design, a heavily modified Chamberlain 2 pole.
