I need something a tiny bit better than Pocket Limiter, help

Is there anything like Pocket Limiter that will totally crush and wall-off a sound? I need this effect for drums. Right now I am forced to raise the volume of PocketLimiter to a very unrealistic amount to get this effect. I wish it had it's out output volume knob!

Sorry, what i meant by "crush" I mean basically compressed beyond reason. It's quite awesome. I'll provide a sample: http://www.argitoth.com/files/pocketlimiter.mp3
actually doing this sample I kind of don't mind. Yesterday I did mind... *shrug*. If there's something better, then great. If not, I don't mind.

I dont get it. You need more than 40 dB gain? Maybe add a gain plugin beforehand. Try classic master limiter. It outputs a little quiet though, less controls as well but different sound. I think. Pocket limiter sounds a little more intelligent in a way. Classic will give you a very pumping feel.
Do not lick the fablanky

Try Gclip. I use it on pretty much all my drums.Architeuthis wrote:Is there anything like Pocket Limiter that will totally crush and wall-off a sound? I need this effect for drums. I tried messing around with a few limiters and I found that Pocket Limiter still delivered the biggest, meanest, warmest drum-crushing of all. I'd stick with it. The only thing that can do the same would be Vintage Warmer, Valvetone, or Sony's Wave Hammer is excellent at this also.
Oh - if you don't want the huge output gain increase you could insert something simple like GVST's GGain and just use that as a volume knob for Pocket Limiter.

Yeah, I hope it works out for you. I'm trying to remember what I used to use for crushing drumloops (haven't been doing so much loop work these days...)...Sony Wave Hammer is at work...at home I used to use...I think the old Cakewalk/Sonar ones, maybe the Sonitus one also...Reason's Scream is pretty awesome for crushing drums...Architeuthis wrote:Arrite thanks bduffy, I'll take your word for it and stick with pocket limiter.
Anyway, you're loop sounded pretty perfectly crushy as is!

You know what, I really like the sound of GMax a little bit more than PocketLimiter, and GMax has release time which I also need for other uses.

Good call The Chase. I like to put GClip in front of Pocket Limiter for the "wall-off" effect.
Have you ever put TWO Pocket Limiters in series on a track? In theory, you could apply 80 db of gain. The resulting waveform would look like a brick. MUHUHUHUHAUHAUAHAHA!
Seriously, you can get a nice way-too-compressed sound by doing this. I like to put GMax first, followed by Pocket Limiter.
