Are there alternatives to PolyComb and DroneBox?

PolyComb: http://www.oli.adbe.org/polycomb.htm
DroneBox: http://www.oli.adbe.org/dronebox.htm
Before I go and buy these, do any of you know of alternatives that I should look at? It's always good to see other solutions so I don't regret what I buy.

What host are you using, Architeuthis, and what are you trying to do?
Both Live and Mulch have built-in resonators that can do some of the same things, although without the cool MIDI control thing in PolyComb. Reaktor (along with other synth and filter plugs) also have drone generators and automatable combs of various stripes. If you are just looking for an electronic tambura, there are certainly alternatives.

Oh, the midi controlling is exactly what I need. (A playable resonator) I'm just using it for pad sounds, synthy drones, PERCUSSIoN definitely, you know.... etc. sound effects... My host is listed in my signature.

NYEEEYEVAH!... no funds to do that at the moment. I'd rather get the doppler effect first though.Sickle wrote:pick up the 'Endless'

Space station's pretty slick, yeah..I've got all his commercial stuff aside from Polycomb, but I never use comb delay stuff. No regrets with anything of his I've picked up at all, and he's a real gentleman to boot.

Macomate88 is pretty cool too, if not as controllable as the ones mentioned...

listen (ignore the demo beeps, sorry)
Dry --> + KTGRanulator --> + DroneBox_demo
This is exactly why I need oli larkin's comb effects! Listen to this:
I COULD LISTEN TO THIS FOREVER, it's like an instant ... AAHH INSTANT LIKE... MUSIC OR SOMETHING.. INSTANT DRONE MUSIC... I should definitely expiriment more with randomness.
Surge --> KTGranulator --> DroneBox_demo

audiomulch is once again an alternative (or addition) and inclues granular effects (kt granulator was in fact based on the mulch granular stuff) and comb filters.

i did read your post, the contraptions in mulch will do everything that olis plugs do (which i also have btw)Architeuthis wrote:waaat? read the topic man, don't post randomly.

the risset tones contraption for example through the comb filters and granular effect will make drones for you.
i'm not suggesting you don't get oli's plugs... just giving you additional suggestions.

you're saying it has midi-controllable comb filters like PolyComb?

not exactly the same (as i say i have both) but it has comb filters that you can control via midi, yes.Architeuthis wrote:you're saying it has midi-controllable comb filters like PolyComb?

DroneBox is really cool though it does make me think that someone needs to make a physically modelled string plugin for sitar-like resonance because that's what I thought DroneBox would do - though admittedly after I first got DronBox I realized I'd use it more than tambura-like strings.

Nice demo, Architeuthis.
These plugs are certainly worth it! Another plug that can do some similar things is PSP Nitro, since it has 4 midi-controllable comb filters. It has a bit of a convoluted oldskool interface, although the fact that it *sounds* great makes up for this.
