AKAI MPC 2000 Groove in Software?

Is there any way to use something like padKontrol or the Trigger-Finger and get the same functionality of the MPC 2000?
So far from what I can see, the answer is no. It looks like the timing of your playing is 'tighter' with an MPC 2000 from everything I'm reading.
Anyone know how to emulate an MPC 2000's groove timing in realtime with one of the $200 pad controllers?

I tried Guru once in Cubase SX and found that it had a slight lag at the beginning of the bar. That really bummed me out about it.
I didn't know Guru handled live timing like an MPC 2000 when you play it though, never tried that.
I haven't bought a pad controller yet.... debatting over the padKontrol or Trigger Finger.

I was told that "tighter" sound comes from the PPQ timing. It was rumored that the MPC has a high timing setting. You can set the PPQ in most host. It may eat up some CPU...

Nope 96ppq.That's not too high really, but I also read that midi cannot be transfered any faster than 96ppq, so perhaps all that 967ppq stuff is just fluff?
I owned the mpc2000,and I believe it's probably placebo effect coming into play.
It comes down to where your midi notes are being placed at the end of the day.

Another thing I've heard MPC users talk about is the workflow. For instance you are supposedly able to hold down a hi-hat pad and it will repeat while you hit the other notes. I don't know of any software features that allow you to do stuff like that with a hardware pad controller.

I have GURU, and i dont notice any lag at all. I can run one engine with 2ms latency perfectly fine.

It's kind of odd to explain. My answer is yes, but needs explained a bit. I don't own a MPC, but I do own an ASRX which does the same thing as far as groove goes. A big part of it is that the sequencer on the sampler adjusts on the timing. It's hard to explain, but if I play a swing beat the sequencer will lock it into that timing which on a normal sequencer would sound off. That part has nothing to do with quantize because when the timing is good it does that automatically. For the most part it is how whatever is played and the pads make a big difference. The main thing I notice is that the hardware locks into the groove, so if it's a 4/4 drum beat at 90 bpm, it might not quite be exactly that as far as the sequencers go.
The workflow topic I can say that sometimes it is really good to be away from a pc when making music, and even better to have one instrument that does all. Some people will say stuff about having to go through a bunch of menus, but in reality the menus are all easy to find and the workflow is super efficiant.
