hi!!

im searching for a lost bit of kit that i thought i saw floating on here once..

its basically just a sample player, with a waveform view, which allows you to set loop points, cues, etc.

it was just like haxxor, but simpler, i think an insert effect. it looked cool too.

but now i cant find it...

does anyone know what i might be hunting for?
and, does anyone know if it plays mp3s?
or if anything like it does....? :hihi:

directwave from image line is pretty killer, but alas, no mp3s...

thanks.
peace.

Also possibly Askywhale's MP3play, which of course plays mp3.

shamann, is there a single piece of software in the database that you haven't used?

Just when I think I know what is going on, you pull 20 or so names out of the air that I have never even heard of.

OOoo! thanks for the suggestions.

i find it to easy to get lost in all this freeware goodness. itd be nice if the devs made a point to include txts in the rars, cuz after a few months... im lost. i *really* appreciate it when they do.

anyway, thanks for reminding me. i do have that yellow one of toby's, and relofter. i did manage to find relofter and messed with it, but never got it to do what i wanted. that might work. does it load mp3?

does toby's do mp3s? if so, i bet thatd be perfect.

glitchtek booty im totally unfamiliar with, i will have to give it a go. but that askywhale one looks as though it may be exactly what i need too. takes mp3s, and looks like you can put in a couple of cue points....? thatd be pretty sweet!!

thanks for the suggestions guys! i dont think the one id seen was mentioned, but i think these may fit the bill exactly. much appreciated!

I'll have to think about it, I'm sure there's at least one I haven't tried. The bigger concern for me is that I remember all of these. I'm sure there is valuable information that was just crowded out of my head by all the indexing of freeware VST.

i wish KVR had an app that would allow you to download every single free non-SE VST

Post

i'm thankful there isnt such an app. they cause enourmous trouble, and please do not try doing it with perl and wget or something.. nobody will apreciate when the server dies.

a public archive will usually have a high ratio of good/bad software, probably 1/20 of the stuff is actually worth using, maybe less. so, it would be useful if kvr had a rating system where you could read reviews and pick out which... oh, it has one! try using it.

It'd be cool if they simplified the rating system. Remove the requirement for a full review, let people just select a rating for any of the plugins, and they can still post a full review if they want to. You'd get much more data that way.

Ratings aren't the most insightful forms of reviews, but if 5000 users all rate something, you'll start to get a reasonable user preference model.

maybe. but it's worth a try

I'd also like it if you could freely update your rating at any time. I may have liked Synth1 three years ago, I may not love it any more. The ratings should reflect the turning of the tide.

Post

ratings could "time out". so you could select ratings in the last: forever, year, month, week, day.

that way you could see what was hot a long time ago, and compare it to what is hot this week.

you couldnt ever really "update" a rating though since that would require storing id information with the rating and would make the code very complex and so cpu intensive it really wouldnt work.

using dating, you could just store several rating files. the file would contain the absolute value of rating. say 1-5.. so you just add the score to the rating every time, and the number of ratings so you can take the average.

then you could sum up the numbers in the "week" file with the "day" file at the end of every 24 hours. at the end of every seven days, sum up the month file with the week file, etc. quite simple and very fast.

to calculate any rating average older than a day or whatever the smallest period is, you would just have to do periods number of additions before taking the average.

uh.. doesnt kvr already do this?.. if it doesnt, ben needs to get cracking!

Post

i think a comprehensive rating system would definitely increase the value of kvr, to everyone involved. especially for the freeware.

but, as far as the reviews 'timing out', i dont think thats fair. unless your talkin about over a few years. cuz its really our personal perspectives that change, not the plugs. synth 1 is still a serious score to someone who has never used it, and is broke...

fehk... the only one ive found that loads mp3s is... mp3play! but i cant figure a useful way to get it to trigger at a cue point over and over... i think maybe i need to mess around a little more... theres gotta be a way.

i can set the cue point, but it wont return to that after i start it once... weird. its kind of like its made for long tracks. it has a kind of playlist thing too, so maybe its like, some strange kind of dj tool.

well, i gonna keep experimenting. if anyone has any more ideas, id like to hear em. thanks.

peace.
