sorry for the X post but I am looking for something with some depth ....been using Enigma,Spectron,Sonitus and nothing really sounds as good as my mono EH small tone

Try the Kjaerhus Audio Classic Phaser (http://www.kjaerhusaudio.com/), which is fantastic, but it just may have been overtaken by NxtPhase (http://www.nubi3.com/) which just sounds so rich that it's gotta be the one you're looking for.
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

My favourite phaser plugins are:

Antti Phase90
Audio Damage Phase Two
Empty Square NxtPhase

Also like the one that's in Audiomulch, but it isn't a plugin. All four of them have fairly different sounds - Phase Two is smooth, Phase90 has a distortion stage, NxTphase has a lot of flexibility, and the one in Audiomulch is very whooshy. Only Phase Two is commercial, the other two plugins are free.

If you want to post a sample, I can run it through all of them and post a clip.

I'm always looking for something with the rich depth and grit of my old pedal phaser. I've tried just about everything there is.

If you have the Sonitus, Kjaerhus and NxtPhase, then I think you have the three best phasers available. The NxtPhase is currently my favorite.

You might like to consider adding the smoothness and grit separately.

For smoothness, try messing around with some EQ - round off some of the highs, perhaps a boost or two in the mids. For grit, there's any number of waveshapers, distortions and tube/valve simulators to choose from - go for something reasonably subtle.
And experiment with the order - I'd go phaser-eq-tube, but try other combis.

The basic phaser algorithm is pretty simple, and every developer has a limited number of choices to make. Some will be hardwired in, others will be presented to the user as parameters.
The developer's choices are:
  • possible # of stages
  • modulation boundaries (eg "frequency", "depth")
  • logarithmic or linear modulation
  • stereo options (there's a heap of those)
By the time we've worked through thouse, we have our "take" on a generic phaser. Some of us go on and add more "uniquifying" features, (mine was bypassing the bass from the effect), but many of us sign off right there. (Mine is a freebie, BTW.)

If you can afford Enigma and Spectron and you still can't get a decent phaser sound... try joining the circus :)~

Another freebie is Blue Cat's Phaser:

(Soon skinnable like other Blue Cat plug-ins).

Beside the mentioned Audio Damage Phase Two, don't forget to try Ohmforce Mobilohm..

I just tried NxtPhase last night based on this thread and I think it's great!! I never even liked my phaser pedals as much as I like this plug...Great job!

Kjaerhus Audio's Classic Phaser is really good. I spent a couple of years trying to find a VST phaser which sounded close to the analog guitar phaser I used to own. Kjaerhus phaser was million miles closer to that sound than any other phaser on the market (and free ones as well).

That's just my preference. You should also try the Ohmforce Mobilohm. It's a cool thing.
