I am looking for that vocoder sound that you hear on a lot of Daft Punk tracks. Or a program that has a computer voice that reads what you type (like on Fitter Happier). I haven't had luck with mda vocoder. This is strictly for studio use. Any tips on a free or cheap plug-in that will do the trick?

Want to make awesome robotic sounds like Daft-Punk, Kraftwerk, Vangellis, or Sparky the Magic Piano?.........
Then Sonicism's Vintage Vocoder is the audio effects tool that you've been crying out for.

I've seen a few Akai plugins advertised in Turnkey in London. They seem to give them away with some purchases.

but i'm sure many places sell it (probably for less then i found it). there's also a fully functional demo out here as well.

Nother vote for mda Talkbox. It's too bad that the mda Vocoder doesn't remember any of its settings in energyXT.

If I recall correctly I believe I read that the Daft Punk guitar FX wasn't done with a vocoder.
I could be wrong, and if I am, that's great. But only great if someone can cite an article.
