hello.. I used to frequent KVR, however I have been away for the past few months. Are there any notable freeware effects or instruments that have been released in the past 2 or 3 months? Just wanted to catch up if I missed anything. Thanks very much....

Depends upon what kind of fx you use...

My favorite 2 currently are DtBlkFx and Lost Technology.

If you make tarnce I hear there's a Purple 2 VSTi.
Don't mean to accuse you of making tarnce, it's just seems like a statistical probability.

no, i tend to gravitate towards hip-hop and dub reggae. The type of effects that I typically use are Delays/Echo, Bitcrusher, compressor, filter, etc....

are there any new bitcrushers?

dblue glitch was made into freeware. Bit crusher step sequencer (and several other effects).

all I can think of offhand and I'm not sure they're all free. I can't remember people's names ut I sure can remember fx.

I'll post a track in the next couple minutes here showing why Lost Technology is so awesome for something roughly akin to bitcrush/sample decimation.

dunno if you know of/like my stuff, i released ~1/2dozen a month ago. mainly host-synced step-based probability functions.. i've been told that the gate clicks but am inbetween homes so can't fix it.. :p

'sandh' is ~novel among freeware, freezes waveform at it's pitch so it sounds like singer holds a note perfectly.

haven't tried it yet, mirror filter by arcdev??

Oatmeal vsti was released fairly recently (last few months) - that's quality imo.

i think 'making fun of people just because you can' is pretty low-grade entertainment as well..

i didn't read any specific 'boners' above, i mean in general.

one of the great wonders in life is when you see someone doing something foolish or different, respect their right to explore their surroundings. stand back and watch.

if it's truly foolish, you'll discover that foolishness rewards itself, and get to see something ufnny for free..

otoh, this "everybody gather round and kick him" behaviour one sees around here basically makes people meaner.

life teaches it's own knocks, it doesn't need assholes. (don't mean you, i don't think i've ever seen you be mean.)

I'd like to give another heads up to The DtblkFx. It is pretty f**king amazing although I have no idea what it does exactly or what the different parameters do (to my understanding the plugin does a fourier transform on the signal so you can f**k with it in the frequency domain). But I've never heard a plugin like this and the presets mangle whatever you feed into it in a wonderful way.

Not freeware, but still you might want to check out Sonitex STX-1260.
