Ok, I've been demoing Ronin for a while, and I love it. But, I'm not sure if I should get another plugin with that level of complexity, since I just bought Kjaerhus GMO-1 and Fxpansion DR-008. Seems to me that it could be a bit much in one go..

So.. I'm thinking of getting the DubStation instead, and maybe BigSeq later on. Will I miss out on a lot of cool sounds if I choose this route? Have been getting a lot of wacky stuff out of GMO-1, that in certain ways overlap with Ronin.. And I have this morbid fear of having several plugins that do roughly the same sounds.. Having said that, GMO-1 doesn't do very satisfying pure delay sounds..which kind of brings me back to DubStation..or - Ronin

Oh well, enough of my ramblings, any suggestions as to what I should get?

In the end, I went for DubStation, and picked up BigSeq since I was out shopping anyway

to be honest i only got it a few days ago, so cant really go in to too much depth.
all i can say is it has instantly wowed me, its loops and reverse functions

i have a thread in the cafe, with 3 tracks of synth noodling that all use dubstation. admittedly the music might not be up too much by your ears but im sure you can get a decent idea of the plugin in use.

all this being said tho i havent tried ronin, still i like what im hearing so far with dubstation

ds is pretty smokin'...

don't know if it can replace the common use of a full featured delay with modulations,though.

btw, all parameters are enough to allow very wicked automations
and I really like pushing the input to the limits. plus, the hp filter in the chain is very handy.

it produces some cpu peaks in big projects, but I guess it's going to be fixed soon.

i had the dilemma with feature overlap with lucifer2 by devine machine and the heizenbox plugin. while lucifer2 covers way more space feature-wise, than the heizenbox, and one might think that since that is the case i'd have no need for the latter, i still bought it.

my main reason for doing so was its accessibility. while lucifer2 does a lot of things, sometimes that can be overwhelming and i'd rather reach for a simpler plug that's roughly in the same area, because it will allow me a different mindset when making music.

if you apply this to audio damage, i'd suggest you go for dubstation, as it will offer accessibility, whereas ronin may cover too much of the same ground in terms of complexity as the other plug you already got.

i own a dubstation license and use it in all my default projects.

I have both Ronin and Dubstation. Ronin is fantastic since it is so flexible. But I use Dubstation ten times more often than Ronin, because it is more immediate. It has its distinct sound and I reach for it when I want that sound.

If I could only have one delay, I'd get Ronin. But if you just feel like getting something fun to use, get Dubstation. Bear in mind that Dubstation isn't very good at being a clean digital delay, so don't get it if that's what you are after.

It is worth noting that Dubstation is a subset of Ronin; it is basically Ronin patched up as an analog delay kind of effect, with an extra set of filters. Once we released Ronin, I found I was using it as my go-to delay, and thought it would make sense to make a plugin that was just the obvious delay features. Adam concurred, and Dubstation was born.

As far as the CPU peaks, this doesn't happen to everyone. I regularly run a dozen or more Dubs in my projects with no ill effects. We're not sure why it is occuring, but it's on our List Of Things To Solve.

So, if you've got something with the mod routing of Ronin already, you might as well get Dubstation, because it does the one thing that Ronin is really good at, with a bit of extra sauce. Shamann is right about the fact that it is not a clean delay, by any stretch. Imagine having a Blacet Time Machine as a VST plugin, and you'll be in the right ball park.
