Best host for sequencing/programming alongside Protools?

Hey.

I have a friend who is running protools and I'm trying to get him into the whole midi/sequencing/vsti world.

What would be good for running alongside PT?(mac)

Something that focuses on sequencing and vsti hosting would be the optimum...audio recording not necessary.

Features I'd like to see are a nice comprehensive piano roll, drum editor grid and...well a good graphical grid system in general.

Ideas?
