Free Dongles ....Good Or Bad Idea?

I'm thinking in theory that that war against illegal warez might be a smoother one if the software company would give any free dongles to their loyal customers. That way, their customers would have no more excuses needed to use crack copies of their favorite software (not even for backup purposes). Am I right or wrong? Why or why not?

My Cubase SX came with its dongle. So did IK's Classik Studio Reverb. And compatible products are allowed to just double up on the same dongle, so you usually won't have to buy another one.
IMHO, the dongle complaints are of two types:
1) dongles on laptops can be problematic, especially when there's a lot of live use. They can easily break or get lost, and replacement can be difficult or even require re-purchasing of the software license again.
2) Warez users are looking for ANY excuse to keep using warez, and dongles are their excuse of the moment.

Not true in my case, I just think that I shouldnt have any hoops to jump through when I buy a license to an app. especially if its one more point of failure in a DAW. I am just drawing a line in the sand, being stubborn, and never supporting a dongle dev ever again, even if I have to keep my current setup for the rest of my life... with all the apps I bought that arent copy protected, I would like to think that I am voting with my wallet, but once a dev buys into dongle protection they will never remove it**
Honestly though, dongles are good, as I dont own/use any dongle protected software, and it saves me the expense of purchasing them
** Noteable exception is Izotope when ozone 3 came out with Pace. I complained to the devs, there was alot of upset users, they removed it, and I bought ozone, trash and spectron because of it.

Another exception is BIAS. Many users were upset with the new dongle requirement for Peak Pro 5, and the latest release (5.2) now offers the option of dongle versus authorization. A step in the right direction (responding to customer feedback). I still prefer serial numbers, though.Stupid American Pig wrote: but once a dev buys into dongle protection they will never remove it**

I suspect its not going to stop most pirates from pirating software though.. I think... even if there was some grand scheme to allot thousands of dollars to ppl, they'd still opt to pirate software...
In the many years I've been coming to this forum I've come to the conclusion that many pirates either download 'warez' because:
(A) They want to sound like XXXXXXXX (enter in popular artist) but dont have the technical skill yet, so they download 'bigger and better' things looking to acheive that sound the easy/lazy way.. it becomes a never ending cycle for them...
OR/AND
(B) They simply do it as a hoarding issue.. just downloading crap because its there, its new, and they can. maybe its boredom???
no amount of dongles in the world is going to stop that..
