What's happening with Vanilla Compressor? Is the latest version still 13th February 2005? And what's the difference between the "SC" and non "SC" versions in the zip file?

I need the sidechaining, what would you suggest as a replacement (including commercial ones) ?

I want side chaining to duck the synth bass with the kick drum in a full-on psy trance track. I've just tried Slim Slow Slider and the release time is very slow even on the shortest setting. It ducks the first two 16th bass notes of every beat and the kick only ducks the attack of the first 16th bass note with Vanilla Compressor.

If it works, stick with it I guess...

I thought the SC denoted sidechain...isn't that what you wanted?
It's still available from chunkware, I just looked.

I usually put a compressor after it to make that pumping sound on the ducked channel.

Thnaks for replying. My confusion was that both versions have a sidechain parameter called "Key In" and I now realise that the one without the SC only has the single value "input input", whereas the SC version can be changed between "input input" and "key input". I don't see the point of the non-SC version as the SC version handles everything.

I am getting good results out of it, and possibly not spending money on one of the expensive ones. As I posted in the Live forums, comparing the resulting ducked bass waveforms between Vanilla and <insert expensive plugin here> was almost identical except for the initial attack not quite squashed by Vanilla. After all I'm making trance, there's nothing 'hi-fi' about that
