when I first press play rhino stutters for like a second. Pretty much makes it unusable in project 5 for me

That sounds like an audio driver problem and not rhino. Check your asio driver settings or MME/WDM for latency issues and/or download and install the newest audio card drivers for your system. Which audio solution are you using anyway?
I check if Rhino stutters for me in Project 5.

Are you referring to when you play a note in rhino (or a chord in my case) and THEN press the play button in project 5? I would think ANY synth would stutter at that.
If I play Rhino2 without pressing PLAY, it works great. If I press PLAY and then play Rhino2, it works fine. If I play Rhino2 and then press PLAY it gives me a tiny nanosecond stutter. That's the audio engine of project 5 initializing everything, I believe. That would probably happen to any sampler, rompler or synth.

it's the only synth that does it. None of my other ones do it. This is frustrating.

I just loaded Rhino2 into Project 5 - no wrapper used except whatever Project 5 used. I don't see a problem with it to be honest.

it doesn't do it every time, maybe 1 out of 3 times. Lol I wish I was crazy and there was nothing wrong but there is.Karmacomposer wrote:I just loaded Rhino2 into Project 5 - no wrapper used except whatever Project 5 used. I don't see a problem with it to be honest.

Raising the buffer size by A LOT fixes it but I cannot have such a high buffer size and stylus rmx still work. Like I said none of my other plugins have this problem.

No problem here either, unfortunately (using Project 5 1.5). Can you describe the exact procedure you're following (are you using other synths than Rhino in your P5 song?)

it does this without using any other vsts. I am using Project5 2. Try moving the buffer size to 80 mS and it should do it.Big Tick wrote:No problem here either, unfortunately (using Project 5 1.5). i've used every version of rhino with every version of P5 and (as they've come along) and haven't had any problems
i've used sigma tel audio card, Indigo Echo card, ASIO. WDM and Direct Sound and for a few weeks ASIO4ALL drivers
none of which is of any help I know
i think karmacomposer is coming close with some samplers on the first playback there is a stutter as the host loads up the sample. once the sample's in ram it doesn't happen again.
is your ram overtaxed?
you should be able to run with latency much lower than 80 ms. i'm running with 10 ms latency.
are you by any chance running some of Tim Cs algorithmic presets and overtaxing your cpu? does it happen with every preset or just certain ones? one note or a chord?

i'd uninstall and re-install rhino
make sure all folders and any demo versions are completely empty
and reset all on the vst wrapper
sort of the usual last resort for these sort of problems

I used to get this problem, not with Rhino, but with P5 v2 and Odo's Dr Fusion. It seems like P5 would do a complete re-initialization of VSTs whenever it played or hit the end loop marker and went back to new playback time.
The problem with Dr Fusion is that it has a lot of samples to load so it was taking time to do its initialization. Ableton Live doesnt have these problems, I assumed because it isnt so anal about re-initializing VSTs unneccesarily. Guess what host I am using now?
Wonder if the new Rhino also has some hefty initilization to do? If so I classify this as P5's boo boo, not Rhinos. I complained to Cakewalk but theres been no word back.
ATS, maybe you should try Dr. Fusion drum machine and see if its the same glitch happening. If so, send a loud bug report to Cakewalk.

I stopped using Sonar and any Cakewalk products for the same reason, they do not work well with VST technology, they pretty much "wrap" ASIO and the overhead causes a lot of trouble, like this one, I would say this is a classic and well known Cakewalk problem, nothing with Rhino....blakflag wrote:Wonder if the new Rhino also has some hefty initilization to do?
