High resolution midi control....

I'm currently working with my trusty old Cubase VST 5.2beta.

After blowing the dust off the manual, I've been able to record internal control of VSTi parameters as high res Sysex (by twiddling the VSTi knobs with mouse).

In terms of parameter resolution, this is obviously much better than external CC control (127 steps).

So I currently have 2 problems...

1. Is it possible to record live tweaks with midi controller, then somehow "convert" them within Cubase to a high resolution internal version ?

If this is not possible, how do people approach this usually ?

2. After "learning" filter cutoff for Triangle 2 (cc #5, from O2 controller) and recording tweaks, nothing shows up in the #5 controller lane in the Midi editor..is this a known bug with VST 5 ?

NB I could write automation fine with the pencil tool, but external control didn't show up (although the sound changed fine !)
