I am looking for a simple VSTi sampler that uses the least amount of CPU/memory and has a built-in browser with auto-play feature. Anything like this out there?

Do you also want it to make coffee for you?

hehe, would be nice. But I don't think I am asking too much here.John Vulich wrote:Do you also want it to make coffee for you?
BTW, just read your biography and it is very cool we have such famous people on KVR. Congratulations on your achievements.

This would do the trick if there was a built-in browser

The only one that springs to mind is NI Kontakt but that would hardly be called "The simplest VSTi sampler"
Quite the opposite. Not that it is hard to use but it is a really complex piece if you want to.
There are probably others but when i found Kontakt i stopped looking for something else.

It's not a VSTi but I would Check out Reason if your host is Rewire compatible, and you don't mind using it.
Reason has a fairly nice patch browser with autoplay...

And you have 4 different sampler modules to choose from with varying capabilities and levels of complexity...

Another option may be...
Image Line DirectWave

Not sure if it has an auto-play feature though.
Other than that, I think that the pickings may be slimmer than you realize for the features that you are seeking.

soory i i tease, but 'm working on such a thing with synthmaker. It will be free or donation/nagware.
how complex do you need your browser?
the one im working on (already have) has a dir chooser like the synthedit ones, and you can skip throug the wavs from that folder. must it be explorer like or waht?
auto preview should be a breaze.
it may take some time thought. you could still geve me a detailed (and i mean detailed) wishlist and i might slap something together for you.
cheers

ShortCircuit

Sadly, that version of Shortcircuit is not released. But if you buy the previous version, you get the next one free as opposed to buying it later when the price goes up. Also, buying shortcircuit you can automatically participate in the beta for this version.

it has AWESOME dragability. Drag samples from your host or desktop into the sampler. Not only that, it has one of the highest ratings for sample pitch shifting. And yes, it does... or at least it will have autoplay features. It even supports rex file import and you can setup loop points.
