M6000 or something else?

Like so often, it strongly depends on what you are doing and what you like.
For me, the System 6000 is one of the best h/w things I purchased the last two years. The mastering algos are around the best you can get, the VSS4 reverb is outstanding, too.
However, the native world is making up with big steps. E.g. the Kjaerhus MPL-1 Limiter, which I prefer to the Brickwall2 from TC in many cases, the ArtsAcoustic Reverb or the CSR, do a very very well job, too.
In terms of digital mastering (EQs/multiband compressors), I do not know anything better than the MD3/MD4 of the System 6000. But you'll have to notice, that it's not a solution if you just want things to get loud at any price. It's more a high-end solution to get a very smooth, transparent and spacious sound at maximal possible loudness, which isn't always the loudest. To obtain a more coloring, warm and deep saturated though high end sound, I'd suggest analog gear like Fairman, Avalon etc. I don't know any native solutions that come even close to those.
In terms of high end reverbs, it's also difficult and depends from what you are doing. If you do orchestral/acoustic stuff, the VSS4 is IMHO the best reverb you can get. If you do more pop/dance music, the VSS4 and the other algorithms within the System 6000 work extremly well, too, but maybe a 480L from Lexicon (with classic cart) would be my first choice.
In conclusion, I had the same thoughts like you, two years ago. I needed high end mastering and reverb tools. I didn't regret the purchase up to now. IMHO, nothing beats the System 6000 because of its flexible DSP architecture and the really easy GUI. As it is for those two applications kind of allrounder, I can recommand it without any doubts.
However, if you're looking mostly for mastering, you might choose some analog EQ/Compressor stuff and the Kjaerhus MPL-1 for mastering, and the ArtsAcoustic and/or CSR reverbs for reverbs...
