I'm trying to convert a 24bit/96Khz gig file to 16bit/44Khz, without affecting any of the programming within.
Since the file is monolithic, it seems it is not a trivial task.
Can anyone suggest a simple and relatively hassle free solution? I own Extreme Sample Converter and also have Wavelab Lite and Voxengo r8brain at my disposal.
The .gig files are meant to be played is sfz+ (gig beta).

I assume you don't have Giga3. What is the source of the Giga file?
If the .gig file is 24-bit disk acceleration, there's probably nothing you can do aside from finding a Giga3 program and resaving it in there.
Or, you can own Translator www.chickensys.com and do it in there. Upon your need, I programmed a function tonight in it's extensive Program Tools that does it. You can change the bit rate and sample rate. (The sample rate is easy to change from 96Khz to 44.1, the listed rate is changed but the actual wavedata is not - just to Unity Note is changed.)
Hassle free, just click Program Tools-Giga Utilities-Bit-Tune Adjust. But you do have to own Translator though, it's not in the free version.
The Translator Giga utilities has other helpful Giga things, the most popular is the stereo->mono conversion, which is helpful cut down on unneeded polyphony.
For more info, PM me or email Chicken Systems.

Thank you Garth
I appreciate the offer very much, but I can't justify shelling money for Translator right now, especially as I already own a conversion program (Extreme Sample Converter).
I gather from your answer that Gigastudio2 cannot read 24 bit files. Is that correct? (never owned or used it).

Upon thinking about it, the hassle-free way to deal with your issue is to get that file in Giga3, and save it as a Giga2 file within Giga3. Giga3 is able to do that for you. That will do everything you want - change everything to 16-bit, lower the sample rate (I think, but I'm not sure it matters), and set the programming where sf+GIGA is going to handle it.
I still ahve to test how effective that is. Or use Translator.
I've sent you a PM on how I can help, check it out.
