I'm looking for some really nice gating effects. I'm thinking like really fast almost that it will make my lead grainy. Any gating vst (freeware) that can stay a consant rate would be awesome.

Killergate for one. Tweakbench made some wicked ones as well.

xoxos' gate3 is amazing...I can't say that I have a handle on exactly how to get a given effect out of it, but just by fooling around with the controls (and be sure to have a drum loop or some such running behind ya...) I promise you'll come up with polyrhythms and/or shuffle rhythms that you would never expect. Absolutely amazing. But Chase is absolutely right- Killergate and Tweakbench's Cairo will do exactly what you're talking about very nicely too!

you should realy try also Ubergate from electronic sounds and scuzzphut wich is not very expensive and bundled with shark vsti at the moment

cant we all use a name like 'sequential gate' or something to seperate these types of gate from an envelope follower gate, 'noise gate'?

i prefer to call the latter a gate while i call the first an amplitude modulator, sequential gate or something simmilar.

I'm in favour of that, I wasn't sure which type of gate was being asked for either.

But for rhythmic gates, check out the Tinygate in Tiny God's free FX pack. Has a fantastic step mutate/randomizer function.
