just got one question....
I am curious what unit does generate that kind of reverb sound:
http://home.arcor.de/soundspace1/reverb/higher_love.wma
I've muted the spaces between the claps and tried all my plugs on it but none can come close...
http://home.arcor.de/soundspace1/reverb/higher_dry.wav
The claps themselves have some ER modulation maybe with some pitching... It seems to be one effect. But the air behind it does sound ultra real and spacious...
also there are some random delays in background....
What unit could this be? higher Lexicon gear, Plate (EMT), TC stuff, Eventide? Don't know...
Any ideas? PCM91 Random Hall? PCM80 with a combination of itch shift and reverb, something else....?
this is exactly where all convolution plugins loose and it also seems to not be a real acoustic space.... but who know....
I've got other samples of that kind but this is the most representive one...

I don't know what reverb was used on your sample but i believe i can achieve same or similar results with wizooverb 2. Upload dry sample and i'll give it a shot.

I don't have the dry sound of course ....
only the silenced version in my first post.(file 2)
What makes it so good sounding is that movement in the ER part and the lush clean sound. If you copy only the first clap sample and repeat it as often as in original file, it sounds totally booring and static....

Ok, I ran your dry file through my PCM80, tweaked a bit the EQ and compressed a little with GlissEQ, and here you are :

The banana in my sig is loving those claps !

hifiboom you may be right. I downloaded your second file after examining first closely and whatever was used on that sample is nice.i got no good results. Wizoo matches its transparency but not its musicality and may not be able to. I'm going to still search threw my impulse library to see what i can come up with.

I fail to understand what part of the original clip you like. The reverb on the claps? On the Voice? Personally I was not that impressed with any of the reverbs used (there is obviously many going on at the same time, not just one).

Hmm.. to me the vocal reverb seems to be two separate effects. One quite bright monoish reverb in the middle that takes the esses and then a very modulated multitap delay like thing on the sides. There is definately several separate effects going on there, not just "one magic reverb".
Cheers!

Also, the claps have several layers of reverb on them. One directional, mono reverb, panned to the claps position (possibly the original room ambience of a miked up drum machine) and then some faint, quite low level hall ambience. It also sounds like there is a third reverb, that is ducked and gets only at some moments in time, rythmically, amplified.
Cheers!

of course I like the whole track....
but for this thread I specially talked about that clap reverb and all that early reflection modulation ( chorus, ER changing, pitching) that is going on with the claps....and that nice air reverb
It just has that nice "it is real impression".
My question is just which fx to go for to get this sound.
And yeah this may not all be reverb...
By the way, the reverb on the vocal seems to be easy to achieve with CSR and an ultra large hall, that has cut away high frequencies....
But this "living claps" are quite hard to achieve...
I though of one effect unit, because I have this moving clap sound on many different CDs, so it may be a preset on an multi effect unit ( effect combinations are possible)
I don't think it is a special producer trick with combination of lets say "3 units"...
Does a real PCM80/PCM91 have that much more air at high frequencies than lets say CSR?
I have done a preset with CSR that comes close but still doesn't sound that subtle....It is also possible to add delays into the reverb with CSR and the real Lexicon ( the real ones also have more pre-delay length )

I think the key here is to not over do the reverb. Keep the wet level very small (of the main ambience hall) then keep the "mono" room reverb panned where the clap is. That one should be quite roomy. Then duck a third reverb with some midi notes in the rythm that you hear.hifiboom wrote: My question is just which fx to go for to get this sound.

I don't really hear any true chorusing or anything. There is some weird lekage from some other instruments or something in the background (that faint humming noise) but I don't think it has anything to do with the reverbs nor sense of space.

I think there is chorsu or something like that. or a changing ER pattern. These two effects does not differ to much at all if you think about it...bmanic wrote:I think the key here is to not over do the reverb. When you listen to the second sample ( dry version) you only hear this clap and how it differs from every other one.
So is this an ER modulation or and chorus or someting totally other?
