Logic PC VST Plugins chaos

I just had to re-install Logic Platinum 5.5 on Windows after my PC's C drive died and I've
noticed the VST Plugins folder has disorganised itself. What I mean is that VST effects are
now available as instruments and instruments available as effects (in fact they're all
available everywhere). Furthermore, the subfolders within the VST folder are now ignored
so I can no longer see the 'Dynamic' folder, or the 'Instruments' folder for instance - they
all just show up in one big list.

This is only the VSTs, Logic's plugs and the DX plugs are all fine.

Before the big crash everything was fine; the VST folder was organised into sub-folders
which contained the VSTs according to catergory (Dynamic, Reverbs, Modulation,
Instruments etc.).

After re-installing Logic I copied the entire VST Plugins folder from a backup CD into the
same location as it was before - inside the Logic program directory - thinking everything
would be hunky-dory. After seeing it wasn't, I removed it and tried re-installing the VSTs
one-by-one, but that didn't work. Effects are still showing up as instruments etc.

Although I can still work with this, I'd rather have it back the way it was. Yesterday I
inserted a chorus effect into an instrument slot by mistake and Logic definitely did not like
it.

Any solution to this would be appreciated.

My PC system spec is Pentium IV 2.4 Ghz with 512 RAM running WIN 98SE. The new drive
is an 80gig with two partitions, one for windows and programs, the other for data. Audio
goes onto another 40gig HD.

Most of the times this is sorted out by trashing the preference file in the windows dir.
Remember to save your keycommands first.

There is a section in the manual about keeping/saving keycommands while trashing the pref file, it's in the 'song settings and preferences' section.

It might be helpfull to select all cfg files in the plugin folders and delete them, when Logic is NOT active/opened.

I dunno if you still have the original subfolders backed up, but it will be OK to just copy them into the plugin folder after trashing the prf; Logic will make a new prf file, and new cfg files for the plugins.
