Wait wait wait... as "slow" GuitarPort User (who's still sitting around with his old update):
What is GearBox 2? Is it included in the GuitarPort 2.51 update? (GearBox 1 at least)
And a more general Q:
What do I need to max out my Port to finally fully use it (aka in USB mode!) with Cubase SX?
PS:
GearBox 2 is not yet listed among "downloads"

i just love the interface alot better than line6 edit, thats all.
Also, knowing that the expandability is coming for it to be a VST effect, and have the vocal preamp models, etc...
just very coool.

Okay, some stuff really got past me the last couple of weeks. Somebody definitely needs to fill me in with the VST effect (does it work with the GP?) and all the upgrades, etc.
Sorry for the noobish questions.

It seems there are a few feature missing from gearbox that are in line6 edit -- such as an easy way to just transfer the current edit buffer to the podxt... but im sure it will come soon.

Basically, Line 6 is consolidating their entire line into the Gearbox software. The actual tones available in the Gearbox (which IS a piece of software and as far as I know does not use DSP even on a POD except for its monitoring) vary from hardware unit to hardware unit. Essentially, in addition to its intrinsic benefits as an interface device, your hardware will act as a "dongle", and the base hardware plus any upgrades purchased (ie. Model Packs) will tell Gearbox which models are enabled.
Gearbox 2.0 has been rolled out for every platform. It adds functions to each unit, some of which were previously available (ie. Bass pack compatibility was added to PODxt a few weeks ago) and some which were not.
Additionally, a VST version has been announced. Now, the kicker is that the VST version WILL cost money. As a standalone (I think they include a D.I. box as the "dongle") it is fairly pricey, though in-line with GR2 and AT2. Upgrade paths for POD, GP, and TP owners has not been announced yet, so anything regarding pricing in terms of THAT is speculation.

gearbox doesnt use any cpu on my pc -- it all goes through my podxt. However it is obviously a different story with the toneports and others...

I seem to recall Whyterabbyt making a very good point about spending a little bit more and getting the PodXTLive instead of the VST thing. Because at least for the extra money you get portability.

this may sound way out there but to the right of the tone select and to the left of the monitor knob is an arrow that points down...if you click the arrow you get a dropdown menu...I wonder what would happen if you selected "Save to Pod xt"..Jason Brian Merrill wrote:It seems there are a few feature missing from gearbox that are in line6 edit -- such as an easy way to just transfer the current edit buffer to the podxt... but im sure it will come soon.

it really depends on what you need. With podxtlive you wont be able to use its effects on multiple tracks at the same time have an integrated VST interface...Amberience wrote:I seem to recall Whyterabbyt making a very good point about spending a little bit more and getting the PodXTLive instead of the VST thing. i dont think either is a *better* choice. it depends on what you need it for.
