Hey group. I was on the Universal Audio website looking for a support forum and they directed me here.

I was looking at buying some univeral audio plugins and I realized that I need their PCI hardware in order to use their software to take the stress off my computers's CPU.

I looked at some of their bundle packages and the cheaper ones do not offer the plugins I want and their more expensive ones offer so many plug ins that I really don't need them all. So my question is:

Can I just buy their PCI card and purchase the plugins that I want sepreatly? I am only looking for a good compressor, Dream Verb and maybe a a deley.

Look at the Flexi pack. You get the card, some basic plugins, and a $500 voucher you use to buy the plugins you want.

The cheapest entry opint to the UAD1 is the Project pack, which contains the basic suite of plugs (ie, not most of the really tasty ones). You can buy the plugs you want individually when you need to but obviously it's ultimately much more expensive this way.

The Flexipack is probably your best bet, and if you need anything else you can purchase the plugs separately.

Ok great. I was under the impression that the PCI card, depending on which bundle you choose had a limt to the amount of plugin's you can use with it. In other words, if I purchased the cheapest bundle I would obly be able to add a certain amount of additional plug in's before I would run out of capicity on the Card.

If I were to buy the more exprensie bundle, the card had hold a lot more plug in's

Am I thinking the wrong way about this?

nah, it's the same card.

mind you, think about going PCI route twice. if you are about to change a motherboard in a year, PCIe might be a better choice.

The card comes with *all* the plugins UA makes. The only difference between bundles is the authorisation codes for the plugins that that bundle includes. Any plugs you have which you don't have authorisations for run in demo mode, for a two-week full-use demo.

You can purchase any plug for any card.

What is the differance with the PCIe card? Does it have something to do with my wanting to upgrade my mother board or up grade to a different computer in a year or two?

Depends on whether your computers have PCI slots or PCIe slots, I guess... PCIe is newer and has an improved bandwidth, so in some cases can give slightly better performance.

I have a dell computer which is about 1 year old. I wonder if there is a way to see if I have a PCI or PCIe. i want to make sure I purchase the correct UAD product for my computer

Perhaps looking in the manual? The manual for my PC/motherboard has all the tech details I need...
I expect they are regular PCI slots. I know the new Macs are PCIe, but it's a relatively new thing...
