I got one of those macbooks on thursday and when I was transferring files I hit me I had done f**k all for the past 18 months due to my previous crappy computer.

Kinda shitty given I thought I was making music on my computer when I wasn't, what the f**k was I doing??

Oh well back to work I spose!

My secret weapon is writing it (in my case, mostly in my head or in a sort of storyboard) even when my shitty, shitty PC can't possibly keep up with anything I'd like to actually compose/render/mix.

Although, working whith what I can do has also given me numerous nuggets of audio joy.

i accidentally make music occassionally when im trying not to

Yeah I hear you, I am currently in 2 bands but the stuff i do in the spare room is the shit that is going to make me famour as a solo artist just like Jameroqui

I'm working at a factor of about 1 note per day (on a good day) but it has nothing to do with my comp (albeit 1.7ghz and 640mb or far doesn't go far nowadays. :P). I'm just being lazy and uninspired...i'm not saying that's how it is/was your end, i'm just saying that's where i'm coming from.

this happens to me often...for years I have said that accidental playing is the best. I pick up my guitar for no particular reason besides just noodling about some...2 hours later I'm drenched with sweat after having a blast...if I could only remember to hit the record button first :hihi:

Even though I'm surrounded with keyboards, guitars, studio monitors etc, I'm only kidding myself that I'm making music. hell, I was MUCH more prolific at age 14 with only a mono track Webcor tape recorder.

I hear on the surrounded part :hihi:...my whole living room and bedroom is gear...the wife hangs clothes on my mic stands..;) But I think you and I might suffer from the same thing...when I just play for the shear joy of it (most of the time) without recording I'm quite carefree. But once I hit the record button I become critical as all hell, often I find myself pushing for a direction instead of just taking it as it goes...oddly live I'm not that way, I'm back to carefree... :)

why? Like I say I play more than I record...I'm not complaining, I'm having a great time...however as a result I have boatloads of "ideas" started

All the time... I'm a newbie to songwriting and man every time I finish writing a song and think it's good, I go back and listen to it a few weeks later and realize it sounds like shit compared to so many artists out there :(. But I'm happy to report each new song IS better than the previous one...gotta learn from one's fuckups lol.
