I want to give a quick informative rant.

Are you kidding me??? I listened to the Limiter Test audio example provided here. It is very unclear and almost useless.

First of all, they make this claim they put it up against other well known products, whom are never specifically mentioned. Secondly, the voiceover explaining what is going on is confusing at best. "Clean and 1" WTF does that even mean? There is not an explained discernable a/b/c/d/e comparison. I didnt even know which one was Kjaerhus and which one wasn't. Third, test tones are great, but no one is going to mixing down test tones. No real world application examples were used. Why not showing how a beat might sound, or a full on donated song for the examples purpose. Fourth, it leaves me wondering what the point of limiter test was. It did nothing, in fact kinda injured my view of this product. Am I missing something here??

Just curious: did you try the demo on some of your projects?

I think there is a thread somewhere where this was discussed.

I also did not "get" that demo, but when I downloaded the demo and used in on some mixes, I found that is make an excellent companion for my copy of Voxengo Elephant.

You guys are right about demoing it myself, but that audio example is one of the worst I have ever heard. I posted up about this before demoing is because I am at work right now and can't demo the software yet. The example was so bad, I was wondering if someone had a different insight or knowledge about it..

It means "clean test signal" through limiter 1,2,3,4,5.

Yes, you are missing something. Listen to how the clean signal changes with each limiter. There are very audible differences, like extra frequencies on the bass test signal, and on the noise test, you can hear wavering/choppiness in the volume on some.

I hadn't actually listened to that test before. I guessed 3 before the reveal since 3 sounded the best each time (less added frequencies, and smooth volume on the noise). But, without knowing the specific settings for each limiter, it isn't really scientific nor all that helpful.

Both Kingston and I commented on that already way before release of the plugin. Got the wrath of mr. Torben Kjaerhus on us for that (well me mostly as I pushed the issue).

Anyways, try the demo. It's a very smooth limiter.

I understand what you are saying. But:

a. What are the other plugins it is comparing to?
b. why just test tones?
c. why not be a little clearer as to the settings even?

Seems that it would be more important to show examples in real world applications(like songs) than test tones. Test tones are nice as 'one' example. But not the only.

I will test it for myself though. I was just ranting about the actual test example itself.

The test tones are a pretty good way of testing, since you can hear the exact partials being added to a simple signal.

But as for the rest, you're right, the test doesn't tell you anything, especially since he could be driving all of the other limiters much harder than MPL-1.

sloworm: I agree the Demos are - indeed - a bit out-of-this-world, but seriously - this thing is a fantastic limiter, worth every penny! Have you tried other limiters yet? If not, check others out first, then try MPL-1 and then you will appreciate it even more.

Why didn't you email Kjaerhus about that demo? Or at least make your post a bit more constructive? From your first post it wasn't really clear what you wanted, except that you apparently wanted to piss off Kjaerhus ('s demo).
